POLITICIANS TRYING TO GAIN MILEAGE: CHURCHILL A MAN WITH DOUBLE STANDARDS

BETALBATIM: With the medium of instruction controversy hotting up in South Goa, politicians there appear to be leaving no stone unturned to gain mileage from the issue. Inevitably, they are not missing an opportunity to hit out at their detractors.
So it was no surprise that on Saturday Benaulim MLA Francisco 'Mickky' Pacheco held a press conference to lash out at his bete noire-PWD minister Churchill Alemao-for what he called the latter's "double standards" and playing politics over the issue.
Claiming that he would have supported Alemao over the minister's support to parent-teacher associations demanding government grants to English medium schools, Pacheco said he is not doing so as the Navelim MLA is using the issue for his political convenience and political survival.  "If he was genuinely supporting the demand for English he would have raised it in the just-concluded budget session of the Goa assembly," Pacheco said.
He said Alemao, as the architect of the PDF government in 1990, had implemented the change in the medium of instruction in government-aided schools from English to regional languages.  "If only Konkani and Marathi were given grants I could understand that Churchill wanted the mother tongue of Goa to flourish. But Churchill's double standards were exposed when he allowed Kannada, Urdu and Telugu too," Pacheco said. He added that Churchill Alemao attending the pro-English meeting was a farce as he only wanted to play to the gallery.
The former tourism minister further said that even at the Congress legislative party (CLP) meeting, the protagonists of English developed cold feet and agreed to maintain a status quo on the issue.  "It was mentioned in the meeting that if the present system was altered it would give an advantage to the BJP in the forthcoming assembly elections," Pacheco claimed.
Stating that in the past Churchill has adopted double standards on various issues, Pacheco said Alemao fought for the re-alignment of the Konkan railway route, got people on the roads to protest against it, and later garlanded the first train that ran on the same route.
When Churchill Alemao was the chief minister in 1990 the Goa government signed an agreement with the government of Maharashtra that over 650 government jobs would be given to youth from Maharashtra for the Tillari dam project, claimed Pacheco.

The pig of Varca and MLA of Navelim is not only a double standard swine deceiving Goans, but a thief and a prostitute too. He has offered himself to non-Goans and stolen taxpayers money to feed the crumb eaters. He must be kicked out of not only politics but out of Goa into his beloved Karwar.

  8. Time and again the past has taught us how we have been BETRAYED. Promises are made but at the time of fulfilment betrayal is the answer.Todays politician as the word spells it self, are nothing more then blood suckers, who will suck you till you drop dead.Any Minister who brings the MOI issue up is only doing it for his personal gain. If not they would have brought this issue up at the budget session of the Goa assembly. This explains the double standard here. Lets not get tricked into beleiving some one cares ..................Politics as we all know is a dirty game. Time over and over again the ministers have, and are still playing it with more and more proffesionalism in it.( although they are uneductaed themselves) Lets get our acts now together and play the very game the polticians play on us. Unity is the key here.
