MARGAO: The future of kids’ education lies with the parents, and any changes to the patronage of primary schools will have to be managed in a way that is neutral, said FORCE spokesperson, Ms Cynthia Fernandes, on the sidelines of a press meet, demanding that parents should be allowed to choose the medium of instruction.
Representing over 52,000 parents, the FORCE made it clear that they will not keep quiet till their demand is met. "Give us the choice to choose the medium of instruction for our children in aided primary schools, whether it is English, Konkani, Marathi and regional languages," she said, and adding, "starting from the coming academic year June 2011."
"Please note that we have never asked for Konkani or Marathi to be stopped in schools, and hence we infringe on nobody’s rights. The parents’ demand is not politically motivated, nor is it communal. It is a genuine demand for a better future for the children," she said. "The opposition to this demand has no substance" she added.
"Why is the choice given only to the rich? Why deprive the poor of the same choice?" Ms Fernandes questioned further questioning are the rich scared that their children, and their families will now face competition or is it that they are scared that they will lose control.
Commenting on the Benaulim MLA, Mr Francisco Pacheco’s ultimate to the government to consider the demand for inclusion of English as medium of instruction, FORCE secretary, Mr Edgar Cota, said any support in favour of the demand, be it from individual or from groups is welcome.
Good parenting molds children for a better future, the choice of minors must be in the hands of parents. If the demand is for English in a democratic GOA then the demands must be met.Why do we have non-Goan languages in Goan schools? Which non-Konkani speaking state in India caters for Konkani?
