PANJIM: Goa Education Minister Atanasio Monserrate has moved the Bombay High Court seeking transfer of probe in the 2008 Panjim police station attack case to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the CBI.
Monserrate moved an application before the Goa bench here yesterday in the infamous case where he is alleged to have led a mob of around 500 people, which attacked the police station here on February 19, 2008, demanding release of a few of the minister's supporters.
He also prayed that the trial in the Sessions Court in the case should be kept in abeyance till his counter complaint against Panjim police for ransacking his bungalow and assaulting him and his family is registered. Monserrate's lawyer has said that the probe was carried out without the investigating agency registering his complaint against the police for ransacking the house and assaulting his family.
The matter will be heard on June 15 after the summer vacations of the High Court. Monserrate, his wife Jeniffer and 35 others were chargesheeted by the CBI in the case wherein 30 policemen were injured. The minister is also booked for inflammatory, inciting and provocative speeches, forming unlawful assembly that eventually turned violent, and restraining government servants from performing their duties. – PTI
