GRA A LOST FORCE by Dalia

Watching the daily news or flipping through the day, it is sad to notice the end of GRA from the minds of the public. Months ago, it was the topic of the week, the day and as hours approached, it was realized that GRA was a lost force within itself.
The hopes of many were raised, diminished and faded for good. One would not understand why did that move in the first place fail to unite all like minded NGO's. Was it sabotaged by the politicians? Was it a suicide itself? As the call was given for the next meeting in South Goa, it was obvious that it will not be a reality as indications from the organisers were clear; everyone wanted to be a leader, orator and a star.
The meeting that was announced to happen at Margao never materialised. There were numerous fund raisers but not many serious leaders. What happened to GRA? Has it vanished? This is a million dollar question asked by many.

This is one good proof that we Goans are not united, we try to find mistakes in others, still worse we are master in pointing fingers to others, or jump high when someone makes a mistake in some harsh words.

More then 800 Marathi schools, where this language is never heard in Goa, nor in the Markets, nor at the Bus stop nor in any Kitchen's. Plus in Goa one finds Urdu, Hindi and Kannad medium Schools. Which state in the Union of India allows this stupidity. It was only possible because we Goans never cared about our Culture, our Language and our loving country GOA.

I pray that this should not happen to NG, If Menino wants to have his own server, his own Platform then we should come forward to help him and his team. If you need anything to strengthen your infrastructure please let me know where you want to have it. I shall see it gets there, it may take some time but it will happen. (I like to be anonymous, I just need a location to deliver)

I asked the same question in another article regarding English Medium. 12,000 plus people including parents and children were present at the meeting except the GRA. During the Portuguese days servery village had a committee to run religious and village affairs, many disputes were resolved by them and the decisions were respected.Courts were the last place one would visit. But in today's Goa everyone want to lead others like headless chickens rather than follow the honest and intelligent ones. It seems get me rich quick is the only way forward in Goa.
We need to unite and find a way forwards before we are swallowed by the "Anda Gunda Thanda Panni" from outer states.

It is true that Goans are not united. It is said that "where there are four Goans, there are five opinions". The problem is that there too many who want to be the leaders, they want to be the stars, to outshine others.

In a land where Konkani is the mother tongue, there are four times as many Marathi medium primary schools as there are Konkani medium schools!!! Plus, there are Kannada and Urdu medium schools. Why should it be so? And why should English medium private primary schools continue to be unaided?

GRA has to maintain the tempo. Politicians to be kept at bay. Self-styled leaders who want to take over should also be kept at a distance. They are the ones who want to derail the movement initiated by GRA.

GRA is a Seasonal Mushroom and it will come back another season to be plucked and consumed by the politicians. GRA is an ogranisation like UGDP or Auda Viegas.

  6. Very sad that this has happened. I have to say that when an issue affects the people personally like the English medium issue, then the people rise up. If is an issue that has no monetary gain which concerns the destruction of Goa, they all sit at home. I think people are generally very selfish. I think it has to do with 49 years of Ghanti rule. Maybe the people of Goa deserve what they get! Maybe the English medium issue should fail, so as to teach these people a lesson, not to be looking at their own self interests only. Why don't they get it, all the destruction of Goa that has been allowed is why the English medium issue will fail. It is a symptom of the destructive forces in Goa. The GRA needs someone like a Dr Sequeira, only I feel today, people are so selfish they may not recognize him. After all, didn’t they betray him after he saved OUR Goa. It is time for the Goan community to do some introspection. Time to look into the mirror and be honest with ourselves. We can’t blame the Ghantis in Goa all the time. Why are the Ghantis in Goa? Is it not because Goans hire them???? All the real estate builders, our lovely ‘Dum Maara Dum’ tourist industry, and mining industries are they not big employers of Ghantis!!!! Let’s be honest with ourselves. If we didn’t hire them, they would go back to their states. Let’s have some honesty, please!!! Maybe then we can have some progress. When are the people of Goa going to do the right thing. If they keep it up, this English medium issue, is only going to be the tip of the iceberg of what is to come. I guess they will start crying then, when it is too late. And maybe it is already......

Tuca chod dev bore korum, macha tuvem boricon zomzoni dilea mun.

You've to excuse me for not continuing in Konkani in romiscript. I'm not used to writing in Konkani, I speak fluent Konkani and when it's necessary to read, I read and understand the text.

If I understood you correctly, then you say that people fighting for Marathi do that in Konkani, that only shows that they are fighting for their master from Maharashtra.

These Marathi schools are a vote bank for the Hindu politicians, if you do the math you will see, 800 Marathi schools needs a staff of around 30 personals, these personals are not from Goa, but are from neighbouring Maharashtra or Belgaum. If each household of these personals have 4 voting heads, that makes 120 person, in 800 schools if we multiply 120 X 800 we have (96,000 votes), plus the parents of the pupil who study there. If we say there are 60,000 student, then there are nearly (120,000) parents who opt for Marathi schools, Plus their Aunts and uncles and their brothers and sister who are of age 18 and above. these say another (100,000) person/ votes.

If we sum them together we have 96,000 + 120,000 + 100,000 = 316,000 votes, is this not a big vote bank?.
This is the reason why the Marathi protagonist are fighting for Marathi in the Konkani language, it's all because of these votes. "No Marathi school - No Marathi Votes"

You're right, we Goans have no right over our own land, but the Ghantties have all the right, if we build a house the Panchayat wants to break, instead of finding a solution, they try to make a big problem until they are bribed heavily. (Some are caught at the Airport, others are paying advocates, still worse some have personal Doctors).

Cidade de Goa has no right to be built on the beach. They dump all the waste water from the laundry, the human waste, the restaurant waste all in the sea. As I've read the laws are made in their favour by the Goa government for contaminating the natural resources of GOA, namely the Beaches.

  9. Every time a new group comes up Goans were getting excited thinking a savior is coming. They have been so used to false promises that no one cares for GRA or anyone else. The English medium issue came up with over 10,000 people attending the meeting but no GRA in sight. We do need to stand up in unity and fight for the better of Goa, we do need leaders or else our cause will end up in chaos.

  11. How right you are Mr.Lopes. We should only blame ourselves for this mess we are in. Greed of fame and power prompted us to paint ourselves into a corner. HARMONY is a word not found in our dictionary. Never mind...... let's blame the politicians, after all, it's election time, and anything goes !!!

Dear Dalia, GRA is not a lost cause, it is very much active and be assured that there are no internal fights for leadership, GRA is a new body and has a lot of ground work to go through, even then they have been reaching out and helping people in different parts of Goa and they will continue doing so, just because they do not publicise what they do it does not mean they are dead, the meeting that was to be held on the 8th of April at Margao will be held on the 29th April at Margao, hope all of you will be there to support the Goan causes which GRA will be taking up. I pray that we give GRA a chance to prove themselves that they are indeed different from the rest of our politicians.

Pedro Bab - Yes . it is very much true what you have said above. " we are masters in pointing fingers to others, or jump high when someone makes a mistake in some harsh words." as regards Marathi I guess in Goa, Marathi as a language is in Konkani script & definitely Roman. I do not know if I am correct in expressing my views that this was all pre mediated by none other than Bandodcar in opening Marathi medium schools just after Liberation & bringing all the Masters & Bhaies from Maharashtra to teach in these schools & the legacy continues. This is where the vote bank comes from & may be there is another second conspiracy to merge Goa with Maharashtra by Ali Baba & his Forting Theives. Some of our guys are supporting Micky Mouse for speaking openly on MOI in the assembly...OK .. Why this Guy had to contest elections as NCP candidate which is Marathi ? I also pray like you that this should not happen to NG. & why we want a separate server , the present one i beleive serves the purpose. What We want is Unity for a Cause . We talk big about so many things... I have a suggestion. Can We all Niz Goenkars buy a 4 Sqm land in the heart of Panjim & eract a full size statue of Dotor Jack Sequeira. His statue by Niz Goenkars Will send signals to Ali Baba about the unity among Goans.

Mojem Buyar maka dista ki tem ek sorg munon ea motlobi Sousarant.

  15. Agnelo, thanks for making things clear. When it was announced earlier that the meeting was scheduled for a certain date, there should have been a public announcement about the change. You may not intend to publicise what you do but since the organisation is of public interest, people need to know what you plan and when to execute. GRA is supported by the common man and therefore if this common man does not have any idea of what's in action, people on the stage won't be heard or followed. I am not a critic but one of the supporter and this should be taken as a open mind for the sake of people who are interested in the change we need in Goa. Thank you.

After reading your Konkani in Romiscript, it gives me an urge to write our blooded Konkani in Romiscript.

  17. Regarding the SERVER, It's menino's call, he has my backing.

There are many disadvantages to have one's own server, but there are also some advantages to have one's own server, E-mail is one of them, accounting and membership, not being attached or embeded in any server, one's identity with one's own name "http;//nizgoenkar.com"

We can replace bandorkar statue with Dr. Jack Sequeira's Statue, Bandorkar's statue we can give to the Maharastrien, they can use it as a scare-crow in thier fields.

I wouldn't trust Mickey "Pacheao" he jumps like a frog when he sees water and green, for me he is greedy.

We were invaded with an Army and with high grade Artilery/Weapon, not and never LIBERATED. We goans and our mother land are spoils of war to/for the Indians, who are enjoying and laughing over us, even after 50 years of occupation. "IOG"
