WHICH COUNTRY HAS TWO LANGUAGES AS OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF THE STATE? By Menino Fernandes

After listening to all the arguments of the pro English and pro Konkani groups, let me agree with the state language protagonists. Let me agree with them on some issues. Let me bring out before our Goans the ideas the I perceived from both the camps and let me give some ideas of my own.
Let us say that Konkani is our mother tongue and needs to be on the top. Rightfully yes, it should be so. Some parents say that the children should talk Konkani at home. Right. I agree that the medium of instruction should be parents choice. Perfectly alright with me at least.
I spoke to quite a lot of parents and found that they favoured English as MOI for their children and they personally told me that they would talk Konkani with their children at home which is a blatant lie. I found that these very parents who favour English as MOI and say that children should talk Konkani at home are just fibbers as their children do not know a word of Konkani which proves that the parents do not talk Konkani at home with their children and then cry that Goa is full of GANTTIS.
Coming to an interesting point as said by Manohar Parrikar that the basic education (primary level) should be in mother tongue. Manohar Parrikar also pointed out that the western countries have only their national language as the medium of instruction. OK I agree with Manohar Parrikar.
As an European Citizen, with the facility to travel all over Europe I have been to Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy and Poland. I specially made sure to visit the schools in these countries. Manohar Parrikar who is an RSS in disguise is absolutely right. These countries have their own language as MOI. But there is one major highlight here to be caught on with.
These countries give no importance of any kind to their neighbouring states’ languages. So why is Manohar Parriakar trying to promote marathi the language of the Maharashtrian Ganttis? Parrikar and other local language protagonists are only trying to protect a foreign language marathi and not the mother tongue and the state language Konkani. All over the world no two languages specially neighbouring States’ languages are given any equal status with the local languages. Has not this been seen by the RSS Manohar Parrikar who is trying to implement marathi a language of neighbouring state of Maharashtra and ganttis in collaboration with the sweet sixteen Shashikala Kakodkar?
With the exception of Goa Hit Rakhan Manch others who talk about Konkani as MOI are hypocrites and rubbish illegally borns of Maharashtra.
Can Manohar Parrikar and the others lobbying for marathi justify their stand on what I have written in this article?
If these dirt bags are trying to protect the allien language called marathi above our mother tongue and state language Konkani, then they should have no place in our motherland Goa. Goans should make sure that they never vote BJP into Power again as Manohar Parrikar is no saint but as dirty as the other MLAs and in fact the dirtiest strategist in Goa, a biggest communalist of all times, a pure breed of RSS and an anti Christian and anti Muslim and an Anti Normal Hindus.
Goans do not let the divorcee Shashikala Bandodkar (ex-Kakodkar) daughter of the traitor of Goa Dayanand Bandodkar to use Konkani to promote marathi. Goans fight for it and make sure that the parents have a choice of MOI for their children.
To the Goan Govt. if you have so much love for Konkani and Goa, keep only one language in Goa KONKANI and throw out marathi into the dustbin or garbage. Goans only talk Konkani. Print school books in Roman script too to those who prefer to use Roman script Konkani should get the benefit of Konkani in Roman script as Konkani was kept alive through Roman script and not devnagiri and let the parents choose the MOI for their children. But parents in Goa, make sure that if you get English as MOI, at home you talk Konkani to them.
My last question to all those who want the gantti language marathi also in par with our beloved Konkani: which country in the world has two REGIONAL or Neighbouring languages as state language?

One really needs guts to write such articles. Good article Menino. This is not contradicting the MOI but at least there is a lot of truth in this article. Well written and well put. Yes itis time for Goa Hit Rakhan Manch to come forward and expose these chors trying to spread marathi in Goa. We do not need marathi nor do we need Shivaji in Goa. Shivaji is a foreigner, a maharashtrian and not a Goan to be honoured in Goa. The thief of Goa as mentioned on the title of the song clip above Digambar Kamat is an idiot of the first class who is honouring traitor of Goa and the marathwaddas of Goa

Menin Bab - Sorry about that and my sincere apologies . I never mean to highlight any error. I only made an observation that this happen only in GOA in Ali baba s den. Your article should expose these sly foxes trying to spread Marathi in Goa . As I have said earlier this looks to be all well organized & pre planned by none other than Bandodcar in opening Marathi medium schools just after Invasion & bringing all the Masters & Bhaies from Maharashtra to teach in these schools & the legacy continues. probably this is where the vote bank comes from & may be there is another second conspiracy to merge Goa with Maharashtra by Ali Baba & his Forting Theives.

  6. English is an international language which cannot be denied, moreover international markets are traded in English. But every country has its own proud mother tongue so does Goa, Goa was (I class as it still is) a country Invaded by India which had its own language Konkani. Although Portuguese ruled over us, their language was not forced upon us and many of our grandparents and parents never could speak Portuguese except Konkani. That too read in Roman script. So why do we have to put up with any of the Indian occupiers languages, rather than Konkani our mother tongue and English an International Language. It is only in Goa our government gives in to every other state of India Except Goa and Goans. Either we GOANS are united or we are doomed.

  7. Everbody knows in their heart that Konkani & Konkani alone is the mother tongue of Goans. However every now and then the Marathi bogey is raised only to be in power and get votes. Mr. Parrikar is no different. Now he has started to swim inside Sahikala's sari. Best of luck Parrikar as long as you don't stink over there. Mr. Menino we appreciate your gusts and openess. Carry on doing your good work. We Goans are with you.

Ask any Indian (Non Goan), what lauguage is spoken in Goa and they will conclude KONKANI.
Konkani is spoken as an automatic language and is picked-up in childhood .English on the other hand, has to be learnt, as not a lot of house holds speak it.
As Maharastrians are patrotic and nationalistic about their Launguage, why shouldn`t Goa be proud,Patrotic and Nationalistic about Konkani.
The reason why English should be a medium is because it has Global appeal and is used in all spheres of employment .
Globally there is no chance of getting a job with Marathi.

  9. Menino, how do you explain this to people who are Illiterates ? In the first place we have ministers who have failed at lower levels and have passed at higher levels, what does one expect from this result? and that too the very minister in charge of education. The only qualification our politicians have passed in flying colors is the qualification to loot/plunder the country and to turn every crime of theirs into a justified legal act.

Konkani comes natural from the day of birth in Goa, many parents of youngsters do speak English because they were taught it in school. English has a wider international market and if one travels to other states in India students there have taken English as a subject to better their economical future. It is only in Goa that we fight for what we want. You do not see Konkani financed by the states whose language we openly finance. We need to separate our selves from India if we are to secure a better future for ourselves in Goa.

  11. Well written article Mr. Menino. True, if Konkani is our mother tongue then Marathis should be thrown out in the dustbin. STOP Tourism or force the tourists specially from the Western World to learn Konkani before embarking on our soil.

Well said Dalia promotion in tourism should be done in Konkani only.

  13. @Dalia
There are some tourist that I know of in Switzerland, who try to speak a few words in Konkani, they were surprised it has an european flavor, our songs are more western then eastern.

Trash course in Konkani shoud be a must, like e.g dev borem korrung, Kosso assa, jaillo (have you eaten) and so on.

Marathi is not Goan, but Marathi is a Votebank for all hindu Ministers, Kamat once said he does not need any Goans, he does not count on Goans vote. He knows from where he gets his Vote!!!

    Mog assundi

  14. With my own experience of travelling around the World for the last 3 decades, there is no other language other than English that is widely understood, spoken and used for business. Yes, I love Konkani at the depth of my heart but what has the government done to promote it? Only the "Tiatrists" are the one who, I would say are promoting it. Has the government done anything to encourage people to use Konkani other than just imposing it on our children? If the Government has got so much love for Konkani then why Marathi? There are thousands or would say a million Konkani speaking individuals in Maharashtra and Karnataka, why not fight for giving equal status for Konkani in those States?

Maintaining Culture and Heritage of Goa is one thing and growing political ambitions for self gains is another thing.

People of Goa, the real Goans should learn to vote wisely and throw out these scoundrels. I see people having their sight fixed on wolves in sheep's clothing - Chorchill and Ratol Mickey for this language issue. We should not forget that this is the issue of the parents and children together, we need our children to get the best and not political crumbs.

All paper work in Goa is in English, why not change that also to Marathi. Banners specially & the pamphlets which are printed & circulated in English begging for votes.what a sad reality, Ali baba & his forting thieves beg for votes, get elected then the people who elected them go to beg at their feet, These elected idiots dictate terms . After five years the cycle begins again and we Vote again for these Idiots.
