Kudos to Willie Severes and Freddy Angelo Fernandes for pointing out a very wrong practice followed by our tiatrist. I being a lover of Tiatr since my childhood would really appreciate the talent portrayed by each and every Goan tiatrist.
Amateur tiatrist with a pinch of tiatr background try to be superstars in just one dawn. They try to produce their own tiatr-casting professionals of Konkani stage. Such types of amateur’s confidently knock on politician’s doors to ask for financial help. So it obvious that the politician who helps will be the chief guest. When a politician is the chief guest political songs are omitted from that particular show, or sung towards the end when the Chief Guest exits from the venue. Otherwise tiatrists love to sing political songs and to be called again and again by the crowd. But how can it be, you criticize them and at the same time praise them when they are called as chief guests?
As it is said that Tiatr is also a media to convey a message to the masses, Politicians grab this opportunity to go on the stage and talk about their dedication towards our mother tongue Konkani and Tiatr.
Tiatrist should never forget the destruction done to our state Goa buy these politicians. Who is responsible for the rude cruel behavior of Police to the public? Politicians. Who is responsible for day light robberies, rapes and murders all over Goa? Politicians. Who is responsible for Konkani / English medium dispute in Schools over Goa? Politicians. And yet tiatrist have led them to the stage in the glory of the lights as chief guests.
How many tiatrist had ever invited Padmashri M.Boyer before he passed away to be the chief guest? I can say M.Boyer was Tiatr and Tiatr was M.Boyer.
It’s not late as yet. Try getting veterans tiatrist who are still alive as chief guests. They have given their life for the love of Konkani stage. Now a day’s generation also will come to know who these people are and that Tiatr has come a long long way, defiantly its not just made in one dawn.
If M Boyer was invited they would not get any illegal favours from M Boyer. But the roques and chors of Goa do favours for them so that is the reason why M Boyer, C Alvares, Alfred Rose etc were not invited to be the chief guests by the Goans who are crumb eaters of the politicians
ReplyDeleteIn the old days, tiatrists were few , and so were the number of tiatrs and recordings produced. Now, we have a lot of tiatrs and tiatrists, as well as vcds. Competition is stiff. Viewers are limited. So some tiatrists have no choice but to approach the politicians for help in promoting their talent. Because they know that these politicians have a lot of OUR money.

The guys you have mentioned are Goan Legends.Not just as Tiatrists..but as individual Citizens too.
I have never heard of any scandals about them.
I know about a famous Trio singer.

at this time the 'dukor' offered him Rs.10,000? and ever since this cantorist stopped singing about him.
And talks all the time very high about the 'dukor'

Looks like every Goan tiatrrist has at least one 'Kumpar' politician with them inclduing Roseferns, Samuel, Minin etc
they are there for their meetings, Kumpar invited as chief guests etc
Nowadays, Tiatrists have become the mouth piece of the politicians. They get a little bit of crumbs to declare them as Sheep Guests. Sing a little more praises and they get a little more crumbs.
ReplyDeleteThe older Tiatrists of M Boyers time and before that, would never be part of politician’s tails. If one remembers Tiatrs and songs had to go the “board of censors” weeks before the tiatr. Many ant-government songs or parts had to be rewritten. The older Tiatrs were self financed. Today many tiatrs are sponsored by politicians, in return they receive loyalty of votes and become Chief Ministers for the shows.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if any of the above comentators remember M. Boyer contesting elections in 1977 on the Janata Party ticket from Cortalim Constituency. He failed miserably and even lost his deposit. Later he did the U turn and stated supporting the Congress for which he was blessed with his Tiart , Ekuch Rosto getting sponsership from the Goa government and later was recomended for his Padma Shri by the Congress Party and which he got. Without patting someone's back the Tiatrists don't get anything.

Anthony from Trio kings has become a slave for life and will die in bondage of Chorchill. Forget about his morals in their Trio's. The less said of Jr. Rod is better. and the story goes on my Goan brothers and sisters.
Recently a Tiatr was held in a Salcete belt financed by an anonymous donor, yet one of the south Goan MLA was the chief guest at that Tiatr. What a hypocritical bunch of villages.
ReplyDeleteRecently on Easter day, a local tiatrist from my place collected money from the locals for a open show tiatr written and directed by himself. I was approached and as a good will, I donated the full cost of the stage, I was even requested to be the Thief Guest but the said tiatrist was requested by me to select the oldest villager as our honourable Chief Guest as a honour no matter how famous he or she is. Unfortunately, a monkey and immoral politician was called in to be the Thief Guest. Though I did not back out paying what I promised, I boycotted the function and advised not to make any announcement about my name as the donor. Our tiatrist are also responsible to patronise these dirty scum bags of Goa.
