PONDA: Shrikant Naik, arrested in connection with the murder of Shankar Ganba Desai in Usgao, has been remanded to 14 days police custody for further investigations into the case. The accused was produced before the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court in Sanguem.
Continuing its investigations in the murder case, Ponda police on Wednesday recovered the clothes worn by the accused when he allegedly committed the crime. The investigations officer police inspector (PI) Manoj Mardolkar has admitted that they have recovered the clothes from the house of the accused at Usgao.
PI Mardolkar said that they had recovered the mud covered body of Shankar Ganba Desai, 28, a resident of Castle Rock in Karnataka, at Gavthan in Usgao on Sunday. However, a forensic study on the body has revealed that the man had some internal injuries on his lower urinary bladder and genitals. The police are now trying to find out if the accused had used any weapon during the fight with the deceased that led to the death.
Shrikant Naik, is a native of Castle Rock in Karnataka. The accused was a mechanic in a garage at Usgao and he has also constructed a house in Usgao. The accused, after the incident, hid the clothes that he had worn during the incident in the house and police recovered them on Wednesday, the investigation officer added. Mardolkar said the accused is firm on his statement that whatever happened that night was all under the influence of alcohol and that he had no intention to kill the victim.
