DAMOR MARO DAMOR IN GOA by Freddy Agnelo Fernandes, Dubai

In Goa a lot more seasonal festivals are being celebrated and they profess to the world, the unity in diverse Goa. It’s a wonderful feeling to be present in Goa for any such festival at any given time. It is always a joyous occasion with the spread and display of harmony and colour in unison.
For a number of years tar balls have laid siege to our once beautiful beaches rendering them inaccessible and I am not at all surprised to read that the Salcete Coast has been hit by tar balls yet again. It’s become a seasonal occurrence or a phenomena, it’s like in a particular season we see a lot of glowworms in and around our neighbourhoods, so to the tar balls dark up (not light up) our coast at the end of summer year after year without fail, disrupting the normal life by the coast, so much so that it would be better for our Authorities to start a festival at the end of summer to honour the sea God for this profound gift of tar on our beaches that we don’t even see on our roads most of the year round. This festival should be called “damer maro damer” in Goa.
This aghast phenomena has been brought to the notice of our Authorities year after year but no attempt is made to look for the source or to apprehend the culprits, that cause this environmental sacrilege. It the apathy of our Authorities to deal with this menace and take preventive measures that has made life miserable for coastal Goans.
When will our Authorities learn that a stitch in time saves nine ? Every summer our beaches are invaded by tar balls, every rainy season our coasts, sand dunes and river banks become victims of erosion, the plight of the Goan coast has been highlighted in the national media on a good number of occasions but still our Authorities are unmoved, they lack foresight to control the damage already done and prevent further damage to our fragile and vulnerable coast and our environment.
On our eastern front we have the mining menace that has made life unbearable for Goans living in hinterland where as erosion and the tar attacks is making live miserable for coastal Goans, so when will our Government act, or will it ever act?

  1. OUR poor Goa is being treated like garbage for the rest of India. We Goans are going to find out that these northIndians look down on because of the events that go on. I know this first hand, and if any of you do meet any Indians outside you will catch on real quick. I think we should ask the director if we can use the his movie's name for our own real life documentary that is going on in Goa day after day. on the destruction of our people, our culture, our dignity the end of our Goan civilization in Goa. Indians don't know anything about insulting someone else's culture, except if it their culture. That is why we need our independence for Indian-occupied-Goa. Why aren't more Goans not in favor with getting our independence???? Please, we must do it now!!!! We need to start education our people on our independence struggle.....Dr Sequeira would be happy, looking down on us......OUr lifes and childern lifes will constantan clash with Delhi mentality. It is time to be FREEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The good talent educational lof that left will return to rebuild our Goa the proper way.PLEASE the time has come.....WE NEED INDEPENDENCE NNNNNOwwww

  2. Hey Trevor..We think we cant do that as our parents in 1987 chose to be join Indian union..
Goans can act wise by pressing for referrendum on 3 issues
    1) SPECIAL STATUS FOR GOA as Badwa Chacha Nehru BETRAYED us. Why?
becoz we were conquered by India without our EXPRESSION OF CONSENT by Goans to join Indian Union and State of Goa is symbolic as it existed much before India was even conceived
So INDIAN CANNOT CLAIM SOVEREIGNITY OVER GOA. Badwa Mr. Nehru knew his wrong thinking and wrong doing asd so he had promised GOA SPECIAL STATUS..But our bad luck Badwa died of mysterious fever???? AIDS..rest is history and we were fooled again when great LaL lal Bahadur Shastri also died.
    2) LOK YUKTA BILL to devolute power to Village Panchayat Ghar..becoz right now The fate of Goa is decided by only 40 theives for loot of 6000crores booty.on yearly basis ..Its a disaster turning GOA LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY INTO LEGAL CASINO. Ministers only to serve and maintain the state of Goa on fixed maintainence approved budget
All extra Big budgets developmental projects approved by refferendum by people of Goa through Panchayats as Goa in a 5 year plan .Goa is very small in size and this policy can easily be executed through barcode electronic voting...PEOPLES DECISION MAKING POWER IS HIJACKED BY THE SYSTEM AND RIGHT NOW BY corrupt POLITICIANS and they are RULING insteAd of serving..Thus Govermnt is of the people, by the politicians and to the politicians. REMAPPING OF PEOPLES POWER TO PEOPLE. TO DETERMINE THE SIZE OF THE CABINATE. eg Goa can be run only by 15 Ministers WITH 6000CRORES BOOTY

    3) RIGHT TO RECALL VOTE IF THE MINISTER DOES NOT PERFORM WITH RATING FROM INDEPENDENT AGENCY TO DOWNGRADE AND further DISQUALIFY AND BAN..
RATINGS BASED ON FOR PERFORMANCE TIER AND ACCOUNTIBILITY ..
RIGHT NOW MINISTERS ARE GETTING FREE SALARY FOR LOOTING GOA.
