HOW DIGAMBAR KAMAT DESTROYED SHIRISH THORAT’S CAREER BUT FAILED TO DESTROY SHIRISH By Bebdo

I am not sure how many of our dear Niz Goenkar readers, friends and foes alike know Shirish Thorat. For those who don’t know this young, energetic and forceful former Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shirish was an upright police officer and believed in certain principles. He never bowed down to the politicians’ dikat which the politicians never liked about him.
Ex-Police Officer of Goa SHIRISH THORAT
In the year 2002, Shirish was investigating a murder case and as part of his investigation he raided La Capitol hotel in Margao which is run by Gaurish Lawande, the nephew of Digambar Kamat.
During the raid, Shirish came across a 17-year-old girl from Calcutta who was confined to a room against her will for more than a month. This girl was allegedly used by Gaurish for his personal pleasure and as a call girl. It was also alleged that a call girl racket was operated by Gaurish from this hotel.
When Shirish confronted Gaurish about the girl, Gaurish is said to have told Shirish not to interfere in his business as he was politically connected and that Digambar Kamat was his uncle. Digambar Kamat was the power minister that time and was number 2 to Manohar Parrikar in the BJP government.
Shirish being Shirish told Gaurish that he cares two hoots about his connection and told him to report to the police station. When Gaurish again threatened him, Shirish slapped him in the face. After this slap all hell broke lose for Shirish.
Digambar Kamat came in the picture and suspended Shirish for misconduct. He was haunted day and night and his life was made miserable. Investigations were also launched into the assets of Shirish, which he didn’t have many. The inquiry panel at the behest of Digambar Kamat found Shirish guilty of insubordination, misconduct and for assaulting an “innocent” citizen of Goa.
All sort of tactics were used to finish Shirish financially, physically and emotionally. Finally, Shirish left the police force and went to the UK to do his further studies in internal security.
On the personal front Shirish suffered too. His wife divorced him and Shirish was shattered. While in the UK, Shirish met Shaikh Ahmed of Dubai Civil Aviation and Emirates. He offered him a top position job with Emirates Security and Shirish did full justice to his new posting. In Dubai, Shirish is liked by everyone and all his staff have only words of praise for him.
Today, he is a very happy person. God has repaid him 1,000 times more than what he had lost. He is now the CEO of his own company. However, although he does not want to dwell on the past, he is still bitter about the way he was treated by the Goan politicians, especially Digambar Kamat.
On the personal front, there is good news too for Shirish. Even if Shirish doesn’t invite me for the big event, I will gate-crash. (My apologies Shirish for making it public, I couldn’t help it).
I always believe that the politicians will never be able to keep a good man down. There is divine justice in this world and leaving the Goa police force was a blessing in disguise for Shirish.
Shirish, always keep smiling. You smile is infectious. I too smile when you smile. I too am happy when you are happy.
All the best Shirish and keep smiling. The days of the mahachors are coming to an end. Niz Goenkar will ensure that the mahachors of Goa get their just punishment.
Mog asundi, dear Shirish.

  1. Has Cowmuth got anything to say to this article. Well done Bebdo. Bring up all such incidents so that these b...t...ds are sent to the hell they deserve. Let the buffalo Cowmuth drink dogs urine now. Shirish Thorat remember that Gods slap comes a bit late but when it comes it is like a thunder.

  2. This is how Goa has been ruined. Digambar Kamat and all his stupid ministers are the worst crooks of modern times in the whole world. Even Saddam Hussein was better than these stupids. Why don't the don's and goonda's get these fellows instead of attacking poorer people? At least they would be heroes to the people.

We Goan women should now come out and slap Digambar Kamat for spoiling the image of bhau Shirish.
Bebdo, well done. Bring more skeletons out from the cupboards of the mahachors of Goa.
All Goans unite and support Niz Goenkar.

  4. Very good Bebdo, like Shyam Sawant said please bring out more of the articles of truth so that the people of Goa know and get educated as to who they are electing for a few rupees. I know that Digambar Kamat had a share from his nephew for his activities. Shirish Thorat was a thorn on their side.

  5. Remember this Sanskrit saying Shirish

    अमंत्रमक्षरं नास्ति नास्ति मूलमनौषधम्‌।

    अयोग्यः पुरुषो नास्ति योजकस्तत्र दुर्लभः॥

English Translation of Sanskrit Quote :

There is no letter which doesn't have charm (curative property).
There is no root which doesn't have medicinal property.
There is no man who is not able.
Rare is a person who knows its proper application.

To Bebdo::: Once again thanks for bringing into the open, the skeletons hidden in Kamat`s Cupboard.
I am sure Kamat will read this, or, it will definetly, be relayed to him by his Corrupt Policemen.
I am sure Digamber Kamat along with his family members has a lot more skeletons hidden.
I am happy to see that Shirish, has come out well from his past experience in the Goa Police Force.
And by the way Bebdo.....when you gate crash the big event...please keep off the "FIREWATER".

  9. I personally know Shirish and met very often, he was the youngest Dy SP of that period. In 2002 during his suspension, I happened to have a long chat with him and what he revealed brought tears in my eyes. After his suspension, even his junior officers who used to salute and respect him turned their faces away from him. One such fellow was Waman Tari who kept a huge distance from him. But he recokned that it was due to the fear of Cowmuth as he has created terror with his warnings. Cowmuth's nephew was running a sex racket that was exposed by Shirish.
Personally knowing him, he was too simple and straight forward officer who was a gentlemen in social life. Good doers never loose their respect.

  12. Thanks Bebdo for narrating SHIRISH THORAT’S occupational life in Goa. Shirish is one person that stood up to the interfering politicians relative and that was great. There are many other honest police personal that do not have the same will, and crumble under pressure. Many have been driven to drinking and have lost their jobs. There is need of a massive overhaul of the entire Government and the Judicial system of Goa, As it is rotten to the core.
I thank God for blessing Shirish for his honesty and wish him the best.

  13. @ Bebdo – Good discovery of the true facts. Keep on digging more such episodes. A faithful and sincere officers are always made scapegoats by these corrupt politicians for not dancing to their tunes. But only brave hearts and good doers like Shirish can overcome the ordeal and come out with flying colours with their sincerity and dedication to their services. If one deprives you of something, there is always someone sitting above us who always takes care and blesses us in abundant.

  14. Dear Niz Goenkar members, readers, friends and foes alike.
The reason I highlighted the case of Shirish is not because he is one of us. The reason is when Shirish slapped Gaurish for breaking the law and for threatening a police officer while on duty, this Cowmuth Digambar Kamat made the life of Shirish miserable.
Just because of a slap a police officer was forced to leave the police department.
Now the police have murdered an innocent Goan --Cipriano Fernandes -- and this Cowmuth Digambar Kamat is trying to hush up the matter.
    Where is justice?
Niz Goenkar are fighting for justice.

  15. Bebdea. Thank you, pls keep these skeletons rolling, let the whole of goa know they type of politicians we vote and trust in. Wake up you all crumb eaters, how long can you pretend all is rosy and fair since your plates are getting filled?
Ignore your masters, they cant do much without you, only the ghantties will be left for them.
Digambur will get a ghantti shitload for the next elections

  16. @Neville

We can never win in any election, if you see how these crooks have won, they have only won by a slight margin, the reason is the vote bank, these ghattis know, they have to vote crooked politicians if they want to survive in Goa, the day a right man comes in power, (this day is not far away) these ghattis will have to pack.

  17. @Pedro, Im counting & praying for the demise of these dirty politicians & departure of these ghanttis. We are forced to hear & speak hindi even in remote villages. Then there is the cultural invasion on tv & adverts, in hindi, look at todays kids, gice big dialogues in hindi. How is that for posterity? Very bad. Konkani is our mother tongue, lets practise it in roman script.

  18. Hello readers, members, friends and well-wishers,This is Vaishali, Shirish's younger sister. At the outset, I sincerely thank each one of you for the support and good wishes you have given my brother and family. In the past 8 yrs we have never expressed our emotions or views publicly. After this long silence this is the first time I am voicing out our feelings. After the 2002 incident Shirish left Goa Police as well as Goa,however we continued to be there. Our parents underwent tremendous stress and humiliation in their old age and post-retirement days.We all went through a rough patch more so,emotionally.Every single day,we all faced varied responses and reactions from people. As Dalia says, some behaved wierdly which is typical human nature but also there were some who rose above this mentality and remained respectful and loyal. We appreciate and acknowledge this.We believe in God and did not lose faith that one day justice will be done. Our parents especially mom spent hours in prayer and hence, this day.Shirish may not have earned millions and I am sure they could not have found any assets under the sun, however he did earn or rather commands a lot of respect owing to his nature and capabilities.Even today, there are people including some of his staff who rise in respect and with concern in their eyes when they see any of us.Inspite of what happened Shirish emerged out as a brand new and stronger person. My family is one of bureaucrats known for their integrity and principles and he lived up to their teachings. We hold our head high with pride to say he is our son.Today he is one of the few highly qualified professionals in the field of security the world over.It is not our loss but Goa and India lost an exceptional officer.I guess such cases contribute to the brain drain of the country.ATS officials of Mumbai police were slain by terrorists but the pity here is that he was victimised by his own people and that is why it hurts deeper.Through all this my niece, his daughter is the most affected.God knows how those responsible will pay for it?Anyway,we have overcome like the Phoenix which emerges from ash.Yes there is good news in the family and we are happy. .Agonies have gone and AAL IZZ WELL!This could not have been possible without the good wishes of you all. Thanks once again especially to Bebdo and have a great year ahead DEV BOREM KORUN.

  19. Wow! What a fantastic person! It makes me proud to be a nizgoenkar. I know it is in us, to produce good decent and moral people. All through history we have produced these people, all around the world, yet we such a small community of people. Fact - In Africa the Goans distinguished themselves from Indians as very decent honest people. So much so, that the British would only hire them to work in their offices. Yes it was racist, but that is the British.

But in the end justice always prevails for the good and sincere doers and banished to hell for the evil doers.

What a remarkable story about a great man.

We salute our dear brother Shirish Thorat and his entire family. Please let them know that evry true Goan is proud of you Shirish and your family. The sacrifice that you'll have made hasn't gone rewarded. May this be an example to all other honest people in Goa to stand up and defend the truth and expose what is wrong.

Todasy in Goa our politicians starting from Digambar Kamat to the rest along with the Police and the Government machinery stand exposed for supporting criminals and criminal activities whether it's prostitution, drug trafficking and they have given all Goans a bad name.

How do we take this lying down? They need to be condemned and exposed for what they are nothing but criminals!

  23. I'm attaching some more details from an article in November 2002 by Devika Sequira. Gaurish Lawande was a relative of the wife of Digambar Kamat. Interestingly Manohar Parrikar was CM and Digambar Kamat was part of BJP then. How times have changed. Wonder what's Manohar Parrikar's comments on this?

Suspended Goa police officer politically victimised

    =======================

Suspended Goa police officer politically victimised

From Devika Sequeira DH News Service PANAJI, Nov 19

A senior police official, who has been suspended by the Goa government on charges of misconduct, appears to have become the scapegoat in a cover-up to shield a politically connected businessman here.

Deputy superintendent of police, Shirish Thorat, was on Monday suspended after a state home department inquiry concluded that he had slapped a hotel owner in the course of an investigation.

Intriguingly, no complaint has been registered with the police against the DySP for his alleged 'misconduct'.

The inquiry against Mr Thorat has been conducted purely on a verbal complaint made to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

The complainant, according to the inquiry report, is Mr Gaurish Lawande. Mr Lawande, who runs Hotel La Capitol, located in the heart of Panjim, is related to the wife of State Power Minister, Digamber Kamat (BJP).

According to police sources, Mr Thorat is being grossly victimised by the BJP-RSS political lobby in Goa for attempting to register a case against Mr Lawande for illegally confining a 17-year-old from Calcutta to a room in his hotel for over a month.

Mr Thorat chanced upon the girl while conducting a search for a murder accused suspected to have been hiding in the hotel with a dance girl.

The deputy superintendent told the hearing that after the hotel owner was brought to the police headquarters, he received a phone call from the Power Minister warning him against registering a case against Mr Lawande.

Police sources say pressure was also brought upon Mr Thorat by higher-ups in the police department to lay off the case because of its political implications.

A frustrated Mr Thorat is believed to have given Mr Lawande a dressing down.

So while Mr Thorat becomes possibly the first DySP in this country to be suspended for slapping someone, justice has eluded the 17-year-old, whose complaint the government has conveniently trashed.

The police are indeed reading Niz Goenkar. Atmaram Deshpande has put a team to track the commentators and comments against the police. One can ask Satish or Lourdina or Georgina etc or Deshpande himself. Some dasy back in the meeting with the police officers Ravi Naik was firing badwords to the police and to Niz Goenkar as well. Let Deshpande deny this. I am sure Mr. Shirish Thorat will know this better and the editor Mr. Menino himself as these two have been in and then out of the police department.

  30. @ Tulsidas Shirodkar... All truth goes through three stages. First it is ridiculed. Then it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.

Don't be afraid to tell the truth. Only cowards tell lies and die as cowards.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @ Tulshidas – Why are the Goa Police & politicians are so furious about the Niz Goenkar site? Because they now know that their misdeeds are brought straight forward at this blog and they do not like the truth coming out from the commentators. Their desperation is giving them headaches and migraines which they cannot bear any further. If Ravi chor is bombarding bad words to the commentators, the same bad words will be thrown back on him because they are the wrong doers and not we.

  34. This article is a must read for every goan. Excellent! Moreover it has drawn support from the very family members of this super cop. While Mr.Thorat is doing well serving Emirates I am sure he is saddened that he was stopped in his tracks from serving his people and state. There are so many true examples of one cop turning around a security situation in a country /state to the best, in much dangerous situations. What a waste to lose a cop of this caliber! Its the people of goa who are at huge loss to lose such a personality in the police force. These ministers who destroyed this super cop's career for their own personal revenge have even destroyed goa. Probably Mr. Thorat would have prevented all the serious crime that is taking place today. Victims of crime in goa must blame their pain and sorrow towards these criminal law makers. It will be a shame to see these politicians in power again.

As with Vaishali, I had also maintained silence on Shirish's request for this long. Thank you people (esp Bedbo). I know Shrish in a lot of ways and I exactly know how hard was it for Shirish and his daughter.

I have seen the effect of Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) on him and what it is capable of doing to people. But some of the Doctors would like to scrutnise Shirish's file. Shirish remained peacefull, jolly and ever smilling person. He chanalised PTS introduced negative energise into dedication to excel at work and became a workohollic. He used to work in nightshift and attend morning classes. I have seen him awake for weeks, but never it dapened his spirit to move on. The only help I could do was to do daily shopping, help make his breakfast/dinner and undertake "solo" house cleaning spree (bhaisaab!), typing his assignements/thesis, his haicutting (for whatever were left by then)...

Between the weeks when there were no classes, we used to have lot of fun time, be it in-house dart games, going to disc / pubs, wolly of oldest of old hindi movies night long marathons. Thereby, I got known him and every aspect of him, as to how and why Shirish is what he is today.

One sure thing I can tell you all is that he is one piece which will not be made again, every human he comes in contact with, will remember him for all eternity. I remain in touch with him till today and will remain so.

There is so much to tell that I can write a book on it. Are there any writers here? I can add his UK chapter in the book. Anybody up with the chalenge?

    Jai ho...Bhaisaab!!

Fortunately or unfortunately, both are today CM and Opposition Leader. The whole administration is being dominated politically....
