MNREGS SHOWING POSITIVE RESULT IN SATARI

VALPOI: The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes (MNREGS) introduced in Satari taluka in the year 2008 has geared up every yar and now showing optimistic results.  Ms Nilima Gaonker presently holding charge of Satari taluka Programme officer claimed that Rs6733390 has been utilised this year on this scheme which includes wages, material and skilled labour. Manpower of 1336 is in use to carry out different works under this scheme.

In the current year out of 133 proposed works 77 projects were sanctioned and had completed 37 works under this scheme while 13 were under execution. She said, “In the current year 354 job cards had been issued to village people in Satari taluka and as many as 1336 workers are benefited under this scheme”.
Briefing the information to The Navhind times, Ms Nilima said, “In the year 2009-10 the scheme provided employment to 1336 worker.” She further disclosed that Construction of kachcha road from Jamblicha Temb Pal to Chorla Ghat Highway Phase 1 to 6 in VP Dongurli, Thane is the major work undertaken through this scheme and added that the total expenditure incurred was Rs9, 08,837.

Under these scheme works including construction of kuccha road, digging of ponds, construction and cleaning of drainages, lake cleaning, de-silting of ponds, rural connectivity, setting up of footpaths, shrub cutting, levelling of ground etc are undertaken. However, in Satari most of kuccha road are undertaken beside this construction of protection wall and drainages are also completed.
Meanwhile, as per the guidelines of central government the block which was receiving low wages are now upgraded. Taking cognizance of the low daily wages government with effect from 23/9/2010 onwards has increased the slab and from then unskilled labour is paid Rs157 per day while skilled labour has been paid Rs200 to Rs300 per day per head as per the work. It may be recalled that last year the slab of daily wages were unskilled labour was Rs110. It may be acknowledged that the scheme has attracted large number village manpower and has gain good response as here people earn their livelihood when there are no other avenues of employment in the vicinity.
Total 30 staff are employed in which two Assistant Engineer with one accountant cum programme officer, 14 messenger cum Peon and 13 Gram Sevak.
