NOTICE TO JITENDRA DESHPRABHU FOR THE ORE EXTRACTED

PANJIM: The mines department has issued a demand notice to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Jitendra Deshprabhu to pay ` 1.72 crore as the value of ore extracted in Corgao.
The department officials had conducted a site inspection last year. While about 15,000 MT of ore was piled up at the site, the officials estimated that 52,360 MT of iron ore may have been mined. The notice has also imposed a compounding charge of ` 25,000.
However, the former Pernem MLA said the matter has arisen over a quarrying lease in land belonging to him issued by the department. "I have appealed against the demand note," he said. (TNN)
