BOMB FRIGHT AT DABOLIM AIRPORT

VASCO: Dabolim airport officials and Vasco police were caught off-guard on Tuesday after police headquarters contacted their Vasco counterparts about a possible bomb in a car parked at the airport. While Vasco police rushed and secured the area, the bomb disposal squad reached the airport within 20 minutes.
Vasco PSI Filomeno Costa said, "At around 7:45pm I received a call from the headquarters, Panjim, informing about a car bearing Maharashtrian registration and we immediately directed our police staff deployed at the airport to conduct an inquiry." Vasco police had already secured the area, when at around 8pm the bomb disposal squad reached the site.
According to sources after breaking open the car door, a boarding pass was recovered by the police, from which the personal details of the owner were traced. According to sources, the owner Umed Singh arrived at the airport at around 11am and after paying the parking charges, boarded a flight to Mumbai at around 1pm.
"The owner said he had to rush to his hometown in Gandhiwali, Mumbai, following health problems," the source said. Singh is expected to return to Goa later this week and his statement will be recorded by the Vasco police. "It is very important that the caller be traced," the source added.
Airport director Paul Manickam when contacted, said, "There is no problem at the airport as everything is under control and we have traced the caller."  Airport operations were not affected due to the false alarm. (TNN)
