THE NOISE ABOUT “CHEDDI” by Willie M. Severes, Majorda (Dubai)

Various women organizations in the state are demanding that N Shivdas should be asked to step down from his post of President of Goa Konkani Academy (GKA), for penning and publishing the poem “Chedi”, which in Konkani means prostitute.
I wonder what are Auda Viegas and Tara Kerkar’s views are on Scarlett Eden Keeling and Nadia Torrado deaths, German girl rape case by a Education Minister’s son, Open prostitution in Candolim and Calangute pubs etc.
One poem does not make a difference. If they really care about womanhood then they should fight regarding the above issues too. Or, are they afraid to fight the might of the Goa Police and the corrupt politicians who are turning a blind eye to these problems, just because they play a part in this?
I too will join Auda and Tara’s cause, if they are ready to fight the problem with the chedi’s working in the pubs in Candolim and Calangute, before these villages become the next red-light hub of Goa.

  1. Auda and Tara acted under the influence of PIG OF VARCA as he wanted to bring down mickky mouse. These two women are nothing but used instruments.

  2. Chedi means underwear and I really don't see any issue in the poem

  3. The word Chedi may mean Knickers or slang as prostitute( Kolvont), depends how the sentence is phrased. Rather than wasting their time on this petty issue, there are other issues that need attention.

  4. In the true Goan sense “Chedi” means Prostitute, among most of the people “Chediacha” is one of the most common word you’d hear around, may it be younger people right to the elders,
If a Poet likes to call his Poem “Chedi” what’s the harm, its like telling someone “You can never write a poem or a book called “Virgin)
Just leave that poor Poet alone, that poem was written by him almost 20 years ago, when he was still a young lad. I agree with Mogal Bab Willie, “where are all these People”

  5. Hey you small Willie!!!! It is said "Fools rush in where angels fer to thread"! Do you know well these Auda & Tara to join them???
It is reliably learnt that Auda's one daughter has left her husband and is with a child. She gives tutions to young boys and then blackmails them saying that she'll make police complaint that the boy molested her. She has had several victims who have paid her in tens of thousands. This needs to be first investigated and published and she put behind bars. Do you think Auda does not know what her daughter id doing?

Hardley many people will ever read N Shivdas's poem and would not even know about it. Of course, it does hurt as women but with his writing it will not make any real issue as such. Instead they should be more focused on high scale prostitutuion that has been brought in from Bombay on coastal belt specially north.

  7. These women protesting about the poem Chedi is a good publicity for the Poet. It has got me interested and I might want to read and see where the poet has offended women. Can any one tell me if a woman is called Chedi what is a man called?
