17 YEAR OLD COMMITS SUICIDE AT SHIRODA

PONDA: Rohit Ramakant Raikar, a 17-year-old youth from Karai-Shiroda in Ponda, ended his life by hanging himself to a fan in his bedroom on Sunday afternoon. Police suspect that the youth could have taken the extreme step due to a frivolous domestic squabble.
Quoting his family, Ponda PSI Sachin Lokare said that Raikar, a class XII student had recently answered his higher secondary board exam. While he was found to be calm on Sunday morning, his family members were shocked to find him hanging by a dupatta from a fan in his bedroom that very afternoon.
Although an Emergency Management and Research Instituete (EMRI) ambulance, was summoned in a bid to resuscitate him, Raikar breathed his last before any medical assistance could reach him.  The body of the deceased has now been preserved in the morgue of the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim for an autopsy slated for Monday.
Police have registered the case as an unnatural death under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). PSI Lokare is investigating the case.  It may be noted that Raikar is the fourth student to have committed suicide in the area within the last two months. Vishal Nirmal Singh, a 15-year-old class X student was found drowned at Kundaim on March 4, while 17-year-old class XII student Sayani Pandit killed herself by hanging in Ponda a few days later.
Aniket Chandrakant Dhavane was the third student in the area to have committed suicide. He was found hanging from a tree around 50 m from his house on March 18.
