SHANTARAM NAIK WANTS TO EDUCATE MIGRANTS TO ACHIEVE 100 PERCENT LITERACY IN GOA

VALPOI: In yet another blow the genuine Goans, the MP Shantaram Naik wants to educate migrants to achieve 100 percent literacy in Goa. It appears that Shantaram Naik does not want the Goans to be educated but is more interested in the migrants.
Fees charged by private schools have increased almost 160 per cent according to a study, and expenditure to send a child to school which cost parents Rs 25,000 per year in the year 2000 has risen to Rs 65,000 a year in 2008 in addition to the tution fees of Rs 35,000 a year, said Mr Shantaram Naik, MP, in Valpoi, on Saturday.
Mr Naik, who was the chief guest at the annual day celebration of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidhyalaya, Valpoi, further said that in cases of many parents, more than half of their salary goes towards meeting the education expenses of their children.
He said that higher fees does not necessarily mean quality education, but it relates more to demand and supply in a locality.
The MP further said that although school accreditation procedure ensures fair infrastructure, there is no standard of measurement to measure the quality of education except what is indirectly determined through campus interview and general market acceptability of students.
Mr Naik further said that in modern times a citizen is expected to bear 7 Hs i.e Head, Heart, Health, Humanity, Humility and Harmony , and therefore, education should take a direction to inculcate these qualities in the students.
He also said that if Goa has to achieve 100 per cent literacy, which presently revolves round to 80 per cent, then efforts should be made to spread education among the migrants as, the 20 per cent gap is basically due to them.
However, computer literacy, is also what the government has to keep in mind and work towards achieving a reasonable per centage in that regard, he added. At the outset, principal, Mr S Chandrashekharan read out the annual report and gave welcome speech. Ms Bhavna Kotekar and Mr S Kannan compered the proceedings of the function.
Prizes were distributed to the meritorious students at the hands of Mr Naik and superintendent of police and pricincipal of Valpoi Police Training School, Mr Shekhar Prabhu Desai. Entertainment programme also was held on the occasion. Mr Anant Jog, member of Parents and Teachers’ Association was also present.

  1. Today Goa is close to100 % literate after Kerala. This man as usual is counting the vote of Goan's as well as of the migrants.

What medium will these migrants be educated in ? ...and will they be given govt Grants.
Will the migrants need to re-align their own mother tongues( eg Malayalam/Telegu/punjabi) to Marathi or Konkani...or the neutral &disputed & contentious English.
It would be interesting to see what medium these Migrants prefer.
Speaking to a friend of mine in Goa, who employs migrant labourers, to work in his property, they would prefer English.
The reason behind their thinking is that ,they will be able to travel abroad, where they would be able to make more money in 1 year , and ,which would take more than 10 years in Goa /India.
Is this forward thinking or a pipe dream?

Did he ever thought of genuine Goan's?. More concern about migrants to reach literacy rate to 100% and that counts his and congress vote bank. Discusting!. These people are all out to outnumber Goans to migrant at all cost.

Why is it only in Goa our politicians care about non-Goans more than Goans? Support needs to be given to Goan poorer families to further their children education. Goan's are the future of Goa while the Migrants are Vote Banks for corrupt politicians.
