ORIGINAL PANCHANAMA CHANGED TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT RECOVERED FROM MONSERRATE

PANJIM: Alleging that the original panchanama prepared by the officials of the Mumbai Customs in connection with the ‘Monserrate cash controversy’ has been tampered with, so as to reduce the amount recovered from the Minister for Education, Mr Atanasio Monserrate,  during his detention at the Mumbai airport, last week, the leader of the opposition, Mr Manohar Parrikar, on Wednesday, demanded a probe into the same, including interrogation of certain Customs officials, who initially cross-examined the Taleigao MLA.
"We have reasons to believe so, as there is a clear indication about alteration in the said panchanama," he pointed out, demanding that the BJP wants directorate of enforcement to take over the case.
Addressing a press conference, after forcing the Speaker of the legislative assembly, Mr Pratapsingh Rane to adjourn the House during the morning session over his demand of taking up discussion in the matter, the leader of the opposition said that it should also be investigated as to which person from Goa called the office of the Union Ministry of Finance in connection with the detention of the Minister for Education.
Describing the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat as the ‘Compromising Chief Minister’, the leader of the opposition further said that Mr Kamat, in the past has selectively dropped ministers from his cabinet citing criminal charges slapped on them as the reason. "The delay on the part of the Chief Minister in dropping Mr Monserrate from his cabinet only proves that this is the government of the smugglers, by the smugglers and for the smugglers," he charged.
Coming out with a demand that scrutiny should be undertaken about owners of some hotels in Dubai, indicating their ownership with some local politicians, Mr Parrikar said that the BJP also smells involvement of more than one politician from the ruling coalition in the particular case that involves money laundering, smuggling of foreign currency and Hawala transactions.
Speaking further, the leader of the opposition pointed out that the Central Bureau of Investigation has already requested the Bombay High Court at Goa to have the 2008 rioting case registered by the Panjim police against Mr Monserrate to be transferred to any court in Mumbai, fearing the influence of the Taleigao MLA on the witnesses in the case.  "So you can imagine the reach of the Minister for Education," he said, adding that his sacking from the cabinet should not be delayed any more.
Replying to a question, Mr Parrikar said that if the assembly is adjourned sine die before the passing of the Appropriation Bill scheduled for April 7, then need would arise to convene it within next one month. – NT

  3. The amount found in person on the minister by the customs has been fluctuating from the start. This is nothing new as to how the law , the judiciary and the Government responds when one of their men in power is caught for breaking the law, and for which they feign ignorance.( The basic law teaches you that " ignorance of the law is no justification to the crime). Going by this basic principle, a sentence is defintely awaited. On the day of the arrest the impounded figure read crores, today its lakhs , God Knows if there will be a figure tomorrow ! The entire system of our current rulling Government is overflowing with corruption , nothing but corruption. So many criminal cases are pending against the Government and its ministers and not a single case has come to a logical conclusion. Infact all the ministers involved walk with more pride & dignity then ever and our very people bow down to them. These people should be stoned to death the way its done in the Arab world. My fellow comrades,PLEASE wake up. The time is now, we need to act, express your solidarity. Lets not delay, lets have it firmly embedded in our minds that we need a change and YES the change will come. May true justice prevail.

  4. Dear all,

As per the International media report, the amount that Monster Rat was carrying and confiscated by the Customs is to the tune of US $ 10 million (about Indian Rs. 44 corers) and he could have links with underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim in Dubai and this money could he indirectly being used to fund terrorists. So now where do we stand in our own Goa? Is this what we want our future generations to learn from these corrupt politicians? Vanity is Vanity as no one can judge a person by its outward figure but to know him better, you need to go deep inside his activities. This picture is quite visible in front of us but no one will ever raise an eyebrow on these atrocities. If this continues henceforth, I am sure all the Niz Goenkars will have to shed tears and sit in one corner of the house and wait for the destruction of Goa in our own hands, while the devils will feast on our flesh.
