MARGAO: After turning a blind eye to the activity over the years, the Margao police on Sunday cracked a whip against Chor Bazaar along the station road in the Commercial Capital. In fact, the hustle and bustle associated with the Chor Bazaar went missing on the Station Road this morning, raising eyebrows over the sudden action initiated by the Margao police against the activity.
Sources in the know informed that a police party headed by PSI Girendra Naik descended at the Station road before dawn and prevented the vendors from starting their business activity.
In fact, the Margao Municipal Council had planned a crack down against the activity this morning, but the Market inspector had to return back due to the absence of the vendors along the road.
This is perhaps the first time in recent times that Chor Bazaar activity went missing due to a police crackdown.
There are rumours that since the Margao police did not receive their regular HAFTA from the chor bazaar personnel, they decided to act. It has also been learnt that the haftas were collected and given to the Margao police station to be distributed among the police staff as is the common practice of the Goa police. But since there was a delay or no hafta reached the police station the raid was ordered.
When contacted, Margao Police station incharge, PI Santosh Mirajkar informed there’s nothing new in the police action, adding that policemen deployed for early morning duties had been initiating action against the activity on Sunday morning. Is it true and a is it a dedicated duty of PI Santosh Mirajkar or is it to make them pay the missing hafta?
Is it to little too late? these vendors have a taste of selling their products and are fully aware that there are buyers available. So what is the process of stopping these vendors setting up shop at another location? The laws to punish anyone in Goa is too lenient, these activities will continue elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteThe police got their hands in every illegal pie, they really have no interest in stopping these activities so long as they get to fill their illegal bonus.
