PANJIM: Gangster Michael Fernandes, who escaped from police custody in February and had gone into hiding ever since, resurfaced at Agasaim on Sunday and assaulted a person who had reportedly damaged the number plate of his friend's motorbike three years ago.
According to police, the complainant, Nilesh Gawas, said that Fernandes came to his house on Sunday morning along with two companions and assaulted him with a wire he was carrying, while also threatening him with a pistol.
Police said Gawas had broken the number plate of Fernandes's friend's motorbike following a rift in a bar three years ago. Apprehending that Fernandes may begin his criminal activities in Agasaim again, police have registered a case of assault and trespass against him. He has been also booked under the Arms Act for carrying a pistol illegally.
It may be recalled that Fernandes had escaped from police custody in February this year by jumping out of a prison van at the Chicalim junction while on his way to hospital. He made good his escape on a motorbike which had been tailing the van.
Police had earlier said that Fernandes, during an interrogation, revealed that he had been offered a 'supari' (contract) by Joeboy to kill home minister Ravi Naik and his sons. Fernandes also has almost two dozen criminal cases against him, including charges of dacoity, assault and robbery. He was arrested in a theft case in September last year.
Let the law take its own course, this is the most famous phrase in our political circle. I donot understand as of what law our politicians talk about as there is no law and order in our wild Goa. Do any one can think that gangster Michael will be behind the bars for his criminal activities. My answer is NO as he is supported every now and then by his very own cousin PANDULAMPIAO MLA of St Andre. All our congress Politicians are criminals and all our police force is their chamchas; then how the common man will get justice. The justice , the Goans will get when they come on the street and stone to death few of the corrupt ministers.
