ONE LOSES LIFE AT CANDOLIM CELEBRATING INDIAN CRICKET VICTORY

PANJIM: Water tanker driver Sunil Dungdung, 30, celebrating the Indian cricket team's World Cup victory at a bar along the Candolim-Calangute road, lost his life early Sunday morning after he was beaten up by four men he tried to restrain from entering the bar. Police said the victim and accused were drunk. Dungdung from Jharkhand was beaten by four boys from Nerul also celebrating Team India's victory at about 3 am on Sunday.
He suffered grievous injuries and was declared brought dead at Candolim's primary health centre. "Sunil was exiting a bar after celebrating India's victory and restrained the accused from entering the bar. He stopped them on the road and warned them against going inside the bar. This angered the four who asked the victim to mind his own business and not stop them from entering the bar. When the victim tried to block their way, they got upset and asked him, 'You are an outsider and you are trying to stop us from entering the bar and trying to spoil our celebrations'," police sources said.  'They hit him on the head'
The four accused, who had arrived in car, then beat Dungdung. "They kicked him hard and when he fell on the road they left him alone," sources said. Sources added that the four accused then entered the bar, where they celebrated India's win by ordering drinks. Meanwhile, an injured Dungdung called up his boss Ravi V, 32, from Andhra Pradesh and told him that he had been beaten up by four men speaking in Konkani.
"Ravi came to the spot and on seeing the four accused emerge from the bar, questioned them for beating up Sunil. This angered the accused and one of them hit Ravi on the head with a hard substance and he fell on the ground. They then caught hold of Sunil and beat him up again. They also hit him on the head with a hard substance, due to which Sunil collapsed," sources said. The accused then escaped from the spot. Police said Dungdung was declared brought dead at Candolim primary health centre (PHC), while Ravi, who sustained minor injuries was treated and discharged from the PHC.
Calangute police inspector (PI) Manjunath Desai said, "We have registered a case of murder and are trying to search for the accused based on the description provided by complainant Ravi." Police have attached the car in which the accused were traveling and said the accused had gone into hiding after abandoning the car.

This is a sad case where one loses life for celebrating whatever it may be. It is said the gang spoke in Konkani, Goans are not Barbarians. Non-Goans too speak Konkani very well, But whoever they are the law should bring them to justice and the punishment should fit the crime.
