It was a wise decision by the authorities of Rosary College, Navelim to debar a group of final year students from answering the examinations for lack of 75 per cent attendance as per the Goa University Act. Other colleges in the state should follow the same guidelines to maintain discipline among the students.
Shortage of attendance on medical grounds, or if the student has represented the University in Sports and Games, Educational tours should be accepted.
It’s high time for the parents and the students to do a reality check, and mend their ways accordingly, instead of blaming the principal and authorities later. Let us learn to teach our children to be loyal and sincere citizens of our country.
If a minimum percentage of attendance is mandatory according to the Goa University Act, then it is for the students, guided by their parents, to ensure that they remain present for the mandatory number of days. Shortage of attendance on medical grounds, supported by a valid medical certificate (I mean by an approved doctor) or on the grounds that attendance was lost due to representation of the College/University at sports events, should be condoned.
ReplyDeleteSome Students today who come from the super rich families , children of Politicians( just a few examples) think they are way above the law. They have the mentality to think , because of their wealthy status they can over ride any law. My Hats off to the Navelim College for standing to their grounds. I hope those students who were barred from sitting for the exam have learn t their lesson the hard way. Better luck to them next time.
ReplyDeleteParents should take responsibilities for their children, Rosary College is right to debar the students for not complying with the required attendance. Other colleges may not do the same because the rich families buy their way in.
