PANJIM: After having a massive convention in support of local languages as Medium of Instruction (MOI), earlier this month, Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) has now decided to educate parents on the MOI issue wiping out the misconceptions created by English language proponents.
The BBSM has however decided to skip Salcete taluka from their awareness campaign. Addressing a press conference, BBSM member and RSS chief and Communalist Subhash Velingkar informed that the organization would be forming around 176 village committees in each panchayats, which would further help in creating the awareness about the importance of education in the mother tongue. “We have decided to skip Salcete panchayats, as they have already raised their support in favour of English language being MOI,” Velingkar said.
He said that BBSM will make sure that all the village committees are formed by end of May. “Taluka level committees would be also constituted by end of April to educate the parents about the real essence of Right to Education (RTE) Act,” the activist added.
Velingkar said that all these committees will enlighten the public over the large scale confusion and misconception spread by supporters of English language about MOI. He said that meeting conveyed by English language supporters at Azad Maidan, last month had wrongly portrayed the importance of MOI and RTE act.
“Wrong impressions are being created in which parents are told that the child will be forced to learn Konkani or Marathi till 10th standard, which is absolutely weird,” Velingkar said.
He stated BBSM will educate parents that only education from first to fourth standard would be in Konkani and Marathi and from fifth standard onwards, the pupil can learn in English.
When asked, Velingkar said that the issue of MOI does not exist at pre-primary level as it is a play school, where kids need to be taught in the language they know and not what parents or teachers want.
BBSM has also demanded that the state government should implement the recommendation of Madhav Kamat committee report, which had put forth its suggestions to improve the quality of primary education in the state.
“Several years have passed since the committee presented its report. But till date government has completely failed to implement its recommendations,” Velingkar said adding that government is literally trying hard to extinct our own languages.
The BBSM recommended formation of a new committee, which would study the need in improving the quality education at primary level. BBSM convenor and former Goa chief minister and a supporter of Goa's merger with Maharashtra Shashikala Kakodkar said that MOI in local language is a step towards nationalization and imbibing culture in our next generation.
She said that various intellectuals, irrespective of Konkani and Marathi language supporters, have come under a single umbrella to press down their demand for local language at primary level, which would help in strengthening and securing the future of the state.
Educationist Arvind Bhatikar said that not just RTE 2009, but Goa Education Act 1984 has already made it clear that ‘elementary education should be in the mother tongue.’
Are these village committees and Taluka level committees meant to create awareness about the importance of education in mother tongue? Or are they being formed so as to create confusion and misconception about what the supporters of English as one of the mediums of instruction to benefit from the grants-in-aid, along with Konkani, are asking?
ReplyDeleteWhy are they dubbed as "supporters of English language", if not to create confusion and misconception? They are, in fact, supporters of grants-in-aid to all schools, irrespective of the medium of instruction.
The Right to Education Act, 2009, stipulates that elementary education should be given, AS FAR AS POSSIBLE, in the mother tongue. Therefore, elementary education in mother tongue is not compulsory. It is not the government that is "playing with the cultural sentiments of the people of Goa". English is already there as a medium of instruction at the primary level. In what way has our culture "further" eroded?
There has been a ruling by the Karnataka High Court that a state government order mandating mother tongue as the compulsory medium of instruction in all primary schools statewide, is violative of the fundamental rights. Is the BBSM asking that the Goa government should also violate the fundamental rights?
What are these people really doing? What is their real motive....? What does he mean by this statement?
ReplyDelete"When asked, Velingkar said that the issue of MOI does not exist at pre-primary level as it is a play school, where kids need to be taught in the language they know and not what parents or teachers want."
Isn’t this ridicules, they are not bothered about what the Parents and Teachers want for the Children and Students, but instead they will dictate what the Children should get? In my argument they want MOI in local language so badly then keep only Konkani what the Hell Marathi?
They are Scared of Salcete now, and it seems only Salcette is supporting English to be added as an option for MOI,
And why are they giving false propaganda, English Supports never spoke of not having Konkani, they just want to add an Option for English, yes remove Marathi….. go and burn Velingkar or just walk over the boarder into Maharashtra, you can do you will there….
It is obvious that the aim of BBSM is to create confusion and misconception in the minds of the people by dishing out false information. With this in view they propose to form village and taluka level committees to disseminate the false propaganda that the aim of those who they call "supporters of English" is to change the medium of instruction at primary level to English and close down the schools with Marathi as the MOI. This is utterly false.
ReplyDeleteAccording to one educationist, there are many grounds for the government to deny grants to English medium schools. He goes on to add that the Goa Education Act, 1984, empowers the government to impart education in the manner it chooses to. He also states that Article 21A of the Constitution of India gives the government similar powers. Therefore, according to the above statements, the government is empowered to GIVE GRANTS to English medium schools.
The Convenor of BBSM states that "the proponents of English justify their demand for English medium education". There is NO DEMAND for English medium education. English is already a medium of education. The statement of the Convenor is a figment of her imagination, to be used by the village and taluka level committees to create confusion and misconception. What the so-called "proponents of English" are asking for is that grant-in-aid should be extended to primary schools with English as the MOI. The BBSM objects to this on the grounds that there will be exodus of students from Marathi medium to English. The cause of such an exodus can only be that the students are enrolled in Marathi medium schools by force, because they are compelled by those indulging in these petty politics, they are not there voluntarily. They would much prefer English as the MOI. Otherwise, why should there be an exodus?
Subhash Velingkar is a GHANTTI from Maharashtra who came to Goa to spread his fascist Hindu ideology and education of hatred toward other communities. The Vidya Probhodini School in Porvorim is the nerve centre of acticvities of all Sangh Parivar organisations like Santhan Sauntha,RSS,Hindu Jagran Manch, etc. Through the school these facsist organisations are poisoning young minds by means of false propoganda to spread their communal ideology. The school curriculum consists of all bhajans and religious rites which ought not to be practised in a secular society. These activities have the full political backing of Manohar Parrikar and BJP. It is puzzling why the education department is not taking action on this school run by a GHANTTI.
ReplyDeleteTai is the daugthter of a an illegimate child - said to be a Maharastian labourer who did the job and escaped to Maharshtra, leaving his Goan mistress to raise the love-child.
So is this BBSM representing goan interests or Maharshtrian???? Readres please decide.
And Parrikar's stooge Aires Rodrigues - does he have nothing to offer on this? Or does he not see anything through his saffron clouded vision since he is on the payroll of sangh parivar???
The main issue with BBSM is that they do not want English and that is because no one will want to learn in Marathi if English is also considered as MOI. Once English is shot down they know they can phase out Konkani and make Marathi the official language and then push for the merger with Maharashtra. In a way it will be a "take over" and Goans will be lostr forever as the Maharashtrians will destroy our Goa. Democracy is dead when 15,000 parents have to come on the streets to fight for their children's education.
ReplyDeleteMotive is simple. Enforce mother tongue which for them is Marathi, phase out Konkani brainwash the children, merge into Maharashtra and then destroy the minorities as per their communal agenda as displayed in Karnataka, Mumbai etc. The main aim to destroy the Indian fabric of live in peace. Chase the minorities and then kill one another for their own evil plans. Granny Shashikala is on her final round with one leg on the pyre and other on the banana peel. Just chill and wait for your next world bus to pick you up.
ReplyDeleteYeah, somehow Aires never supports the causes of the masses but only what he thinks should be right. Not heard a word from him regarding this issue. I wonder why????
