Speaking to this daily, Mr Parsekar said that various works pertaining to the roads from Morjim to Mandrem and Chopdem to Morjim, such as widening, hot-mixing, building drains and culverts etc, are going on and that hot-mixing would be taken up soon.
He stated that the work of improving the road from Morjim to Mandrem has been completed and now the road from Chopdem to Morjim is being taken up.
“At many places hills have to be cut, electricity poles have to be shifted and cement slabs have to be placed on drains. People should cooperate and bear for some time as we hope to complete major works before monsoons,” he stated.
He said that work on two culverts was going on in full swing. It may be recalled that just a fortnight ago, residents of Morjim had threatened to launch an agitation due to bad roads in the village moreover with many tourists coming to the Morjim beach and having to pass through bad roads.
Mr Parsekar said that he was keen that the work should be completed soon. “` 6 crore are being spent on improving the road network in Morjim village panchayat jurisdiction only. For a longtime these roads were neglected and as the road is being used by many tourists to visit the beach we had taken up the work of acquiring additional land for road widening and later hot-mixing and all these major road works will be completed before monsoons.”
He informed that as of now people were finding it difficult to move along the road and so were quite upset and wanted to agitate but added that the works are in progress and people should bear for some time.
