UNDERTRIAL MICHAEL FERNANDES ESCAPES FROM POLICE BUS

VASCO: In a dramatic escape, an undertrial, Michael Fernandes from Agacaim, jumped off a Escort Cell bus loaded with policemen and fled in a motorcycle at the busy Chicalim junction on Tuesday evening.  Fernandes (25) has been accused of 22 cases of thefts, robberies and dacoities in Goa and Maharashtra.
The escape not only suggests that it was a well planned move, it also exposes the lax security provided in escorting under trials to courts and hospitals.  According to Vasco police, Fernandes jumped off the Swaraj Mazda bus (GA01-G2037) near the crowded Chicalim junction at about 5.45 pm, while the bus was retuning to Sada jail.  Fernandes fled on a Yamaha motorcycle (GA07-H1429), which was reportedly stationed at the junction.
The plot seemed well planned, as Fernandes was aware that the bus would slow down at the Chicalim junction at about 5.45 pm, due to peak hour traffic.  Police further informed that while one motorcycle rider was waiting at the Chicalim junction, another motorcycle rider, was constantly trailing the escort bus from Cortalim, alerting their counterparts.
As soon as the escort bus slowed down at the Chicalim junction, Fernandes jumped off the bus and fled on the motorcycle towards Panjim.  According to jail authorities, the accused was transferred from Mapusa judicial custody to Sada Sub Jail on December 24, 2010.
Sources in the Vasco Escort Cell informed that Fernandes along with five other undertrials were to be taken to court. Some were scheduled to attend the court in Panjim, while Fernandes was taken to Mapusa.
Sources informed that one undertrial was provided with two police escorts, thereby suggesting nearly a dozen policemen were present in the bus when the accused jumped off the escort bus.  It is learnt that Fernandes is allegedly operating a gang in Goa and Maharashtra and Tuesday’s dramatic escape appears to have been hatched well in advance.
About seven months ago, three inmates from Sada Sub jail had escaped by drilling a hole in the toilet. Accused Hitler Fernandes, who had spent almost half his half in jail in connection with two murders, along with undertrials Abhijit Patil (27) and Seby Ferrao (23) had escaped from the jail. Abhijit Patil was later arrested in Molem.

  1. These prisoners should be escorted by human rights activists, As it is they who have objected to prisoners being escorted with handcuffs or shackles .

  2. But Diogo, these human right activists should themselves be chained to the prisoners and dragged along. Diogo do you know who these human right activists are? Most of them are illegaly born ones to unwed mothers, some are criminals and crooks, others are just vagabonds who have come together and formed human rights group

  4. Human rights........ ONLY IN GOA? What about the rest of the world? And do the police mean to say nobody noticed the guy going to the door of the bus? Or did he jump through the window? It clearly doesn't look like a prison bus, more like a tourist bus??? HE WAS SET FREE BY HIS MINDERS.

I say in this instance "well done " to Michael. He is showing up the ineffectiveness of the Whole of Goa Police.
Goa Police are mere money (HAFTA) Grabbing COWBOYS.They are incapable of any other task or good Policing,
It seems like their errors and suspensions are now occuring on a daily basis.I wonder if this could soon be on an "HOURLY" basis.
However I am personally sure that the Goa Police commit crimes every second.
Jus as I am ending this comment , I am sure some poor soul somewhere is being fleeced for money.
