GOA, DAMÃO AND DIU WERE LIBERATED? By Francisco Monteiro, Portugal

[Original Article in Portuguese by Francisco Monteiro translated into English by Franco Fernandes]
The Truth of the "Liberation" is Very Clear - Transform Goa, Damão and Diu for Strong Military Camps for Indian Armed Forces to Subjugate the People of Goa, Damão and Diu.
It was on behalf of the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru and the Congress Party which ruled India in 1961 that ordered the use of Indian Armed Forces to Invade, Occupy and then Annex Goa, Damão and Diu.
Jawaharlal Nehru said at the time that the Portuguese forces stationed in those three territories constituted a very serious threat to the India's territorial integrity and peace and security in the Indian subcontinent. For make no mistake we say that the Portuguese troops (metroploitanos e Naturais) were about 3,000 soldiers who encompassed small military units.
The Portuguese defense forces in Goa was of eight companies that is Companhia de Caçadores (unit of infantary) without automatic rifles, two batteries - Batarias de Artilharia (basic unit of field artillery howitzer with 4 8.8) and 4 squadron - Esquadrão de Reconhecimento (unit of cavalry) with obsolete cars (armored cars of World War II used in Libya campaign, without tanks), a detachment of engineering (Destacamento de Engenharia da India) and a company of material maintenance (Companhia de Manutenção de Material).
The Portuguese Naval presence in 18 December 1961 was limited to the old frigate, built in 1934 (Aviso " Afonso de Albuquerque ") and the small motorboat inspection (Lancha de Fiscalização "Sirius"), there was no Naval base to support those Ship.
Goa had no Portuguese Air Bases, not even a single Portuguese military plane.
At Damão the field troops was composed by 2 infantary companies and only 1 artillery baterie; the Navy have only 1 inspection motorboat (Lancha de Fiscalização"Antares").
At Diu the army have only 1 infantary company and only 1 artillery baterie; the Navy have only 1 inspection motoboat (Lancha de Fiscalização "Vega")
What we see now after Goa, Damão and Diu was "Liberated" in name of the security and peace ? This is the real panorama about the military presence of Indian Armed Forces in Goa, Damão and Diu: - Just after the occupation of Goa on 19th December 1961 the Dabolim airport was transformed in Indian air-naval base (Hansa) which put all obstacles for the progress of Goa mainly to the development of tourism;
-Two army camps was created in Goa, one near Bambolim broadcasting station and another at Navelim;
- At Verém is located the Naval Academy (INS Mandovi);
- The Island of Angediva (Anjadiv) was sold without the permission of Goan people for the Indian Navy to serve as forward post to the big project of Sea Bird, which must be the biggest naval base on this side of the Suez;
- The Damão (Daman) airport was transformed in naval air station of Indian Coast Guard;
Now the Government of India that proclaim to the world that is a peaceful country is projecting to install one Indian Air Force base at Diu, non respecting the wishes and the opposition of the local inhabitants.
Once more the mask fell down.
This is the Great India, lover of peace and of the human rights that transformed the tiny Goa, Damão and Diu in military camps for the Indian Armed Forces!
The massive presence of the Indian Armed Forces in the tiny territories of Goa, Damão and Diu is to perpetuate the occupation and in this way intimidate and subjugate the people of Goa, Damão and Diu.
Viva Goa!

  1. Very well seen the integrated militrie`s analisy in this 3 territories, Goa, Daman and Diu. May be this bases will also give employment to local peoples as civilian staf and militries personels!!! The ocupation of this territories may be the strategic plan for the India`s defense and at the same time to assegurate India`s position as a regional potencia. But this ocupation has been legitimated by the so called "democratic power"!

    It is well understood, Nehru was crook bast..rd, was he really lived to see his evil deeds?. NO, within two years he met his destiny and his generations has paid and are paying for his great blunder and wrong doing, Grandson Sanjay Gandhi died horrible death by plane crash,Indira Gandhi died miserable death at the hands of her own bodyguards followeed by her second Son Rajiv Gandhi another most horrible death and now his remaining generations are waiting for their fate. People may say they laid down their lives for the Country but definately not. In Konkani there is saying " Mai Pai Korta Pap Bhurgi Ditat Zap". My dear, Goa is the land of our Patron Saint Francis Xavier and he will never let down Goa and Goan's into the hands of crook Indian's. Mark my words, day will come Goa will not remain as Goa but "Republic of Goa".

  3. With all due respect Mr Monteiro, the transition of dabolim to civilian control was to be pushed for by the Govt of Goa, which over the years they have failed. If the portuguese defence in Goa were poor in 1961 whose fault was it? Also Portugal has accepted the Goa is a part of India, I am aware that many Portuguese still say and believe Goa is a part of Portugal, so why did the portuguese govt accept the claim made by India.
    On the IAF base proposed in Diu, could you please provide source of your information. The IAF already has a base in Bhuj which is straregicall placed to deal with threats all along the international boundary coverd by the state of Gujarat. There is no hard and fast rule that any place should not have bases for the armed forces, as long as it meets a strategic objective and is with blessings of the locals where is the problem.I have seen first hand the effect of 2 signal training centre in bambolim on the surrounding Flora and water resources.This sir is not a strategic location and can be downsized, but again the elected reps should have raised this issue with IA and defence ministry, which they have never done.

  4. Goa can only be independent when the Government of Goa will ask for it, as long as we Goans are Voting for Congress, BJP, NCP and all other Invaders Indian Parties we will never dream of Independence only we will in Forum like this speak and argue over / about it.

    It's high time that we with people like Cruz try to form a Pure Goan Party. With Ideologies from our beloved saviour of Goa Dr. Jack de Sequeira.

    I'll support any Party or organisation that wants independence from India. I can't support the idea of Special status as it's a big lie, "Special Status mean Invaders Indians forever" forever we have to sing Jana Gana and Indians will make us think Pakistan is robbing Kashmir.

  5. With all due respect Mr.Lopes, Candidates have to be elected based on their merit and competence (atleast in theory) whether they are from any political parties should not make a difference.
    India is an idea, none of us are indians in real sense, we are goans, marathas, tamils, etc. most people seem to miss this point.
    A few people outside india and a few in goa keep on going about independance without giving any clear strategy or even a simple road map. Being very realistic,the idea of independance is as useless as is this special status.What we require is there right now, all we need is to manage it properly.

    It's not the Candidate who speaks, it's the party that makes him speak, The Candidate is just the microphone of any party, for e.g. if Congress is voted in power the needs of the congress are more important then the needs of that state and the candidate.

    Irrelevant who is the Candidate the party shows the candidate the way, we have seen it in NCP, Congress, Shiv Sena and so on.

    We've to vote in for that party that wants Independence for Goa. All the rest is complete totally Bullshit. The Invader Parties of India will do what ever they want in Goa. The Invader Indians with their corrupt parties will destroy Goa even more further, if we don't consider the Party and only take into account the candidate. In 1984 ? the then Congress leader Mr. Rajiv Gandhi used a lot of Film actors to win the Election. He did win the Election with a big Margin, those Candidates didn't have the right to speak, the Congress party of Rajiv did all the speaking and robbing.
