WHAT WE ARE FIGHTING FOR AND WHY WE HAVE TO FORM A PARTY by P. Cruz, Vasco da Gama

(The views in this article are entirely those of the Author)
Its is almost an year for the Blog “NIZ GOENKAR” and I congratulate Bab Menino for this and also all the core members, readers and commentators for the wonderful job you are doing for our motherland. I take this opportunity to write since we Goans failed to recognise what we want. I also respect the views of Menino that Niz Goenkar does not want to form a Political Party.
As per the various comments on the Blog it is not clear what the people want and what we have to fight for. First of all let me ask you what you want to Goa become? Is it we are fighting for the Special Status? I am also puzzled for what we are fighting for as the commentators have different opinion.
When I joined Niz Goenkar we had decided to fight for Special Status, where non Goans could not buy land and also they could not do business in our Goa. So this will keep the Identity of Goans and our youth will involve in business and that was a chance for employment. Today Goans are scatted all over the world, so if we get special status we would have asked the Goans to come and work in our motherland. So I ask each one of you to decide and let us know what we want and what we have to fight for.
What we need now is a 3rd Party in Goa be of a name of our choice. Niz Goenkar will obviously support this Party that will be formed in Goa. Since Niz Goenkar does not want to form a political party, I think we Goans should now form a new Party by naming it appropriately. This party will definitely have the support of Niz Goenkar
Other case is why we want to form a Political Party? There are various reasons for that. As there is lot of corruption created by our own Goans and every time they have to wait for the high command for any decision. Why we want the outside people to take decisions for Goa? We are Goans and we Goans should know what is good for us. The people in Goa are fed up of the Congress, BJP, NCP and even they do not like UGDP, the people want a change and that change is to form our own Government by electing representative of our own party, a true regional party, a true Goan dedicated party. The supporters of Congress-BJP are asking for a political party, the Hindus-Christians and Muslim of Goans want our own Regional Party. If we do not form the party then the BJP or Congress will again rule the government as the people have no choice. The other factor is Independent candidate if get elected he will jump to Congress or BJP, what guarantee you have he will remain with us as the disqualification rule will not work if he is Independent. If we have our party MLA/MLA’s he has to be a member only and he should be not given high post then he can’t try to merge our party to other party. If he/they tries to jump to another party then he will have chance for disqualification. Also if a Independent candidate is elected then it is consider as independent, but if a Party Candidate get elected suppose of 3rd Front for example then everyone will say “Hey there is our candidate”, who will respect for Independent candidate? Unless he is Rane, Babush, Alemaos. Also the main point is the opposition or ruling Party will be scared that at least one 3rd Front candidate is there who will fight against us. Also the central government will know what Goans wants and will be scared of us. The last factor is once our candidates or candidate gets elected then the first speech he will give in the assembly as 3rd Front will satisfy our heart. We can watch him on the TV and fill our heart with joy and we can be happy that our representative is there who will speak on behalf of Goans. We can stand at that time and hold our hand against our breast and hit hard to our heart saying “We have done it” and its time to achieve our goals. We can sing the song of Late Alfred Rose & Rita Rose “GOA A… A , ZOLAMACHO GHANV GOA… GOA … A … A. SOBIT SUNDOR GOA” and with this we can further our action to what we want.

  1. Yes , I agree with you and we need to form the regional party as congress and BJP let us down. We do want to rule us by own people and not the corrupt high command from Delhi. we also dont want to associate with any present MLAs as they are all anti-Goans. They have not done anything to save Goa as they are busy filling their empty coffers. we dont want to be known as aam admi from the chor aadmis, we want to be known as niz goenkars.

  2. Dear Mr P Cruz....you are a TRUE Nizgoenkar...I believe everything you wrote. I commend you for wanting to take on this struggle. I know you were one of the key people in helping the boy that passed away in Dubai. You never asked for a thank you. You did it because you have a good heart and your intensions were good. I appeal to our people, please listen to Mr P Cruz. It will be too late to cry afterwards. Long before, my father and his generation were predicting the situation in Goa, and nobody would listen, only now some are waking up. Goa is being run by ILLIERATE THUGS who want to LOOT, PLUNDER and DESTROY in their incessant GREED and need for POWER. I hate to say this, but am I foolish to say that some us cannot see this?? Or is it because we don't care so long as we get our breadcrumbs? I spend my time reading day after the day the same situation in Goa, it is only getting worse, yet why do we Goans remain silent? What is wrong with us? Yes, some of us left Goa, but what choice did we have? We could not get jobs.....I believe when we have good true nizgoenkars in charge of Goa, we can enact policies that can bring our talented people around the world back to Goa to invest in Goa. I beg our people to do the right thing! It is no use going to Temple or Church and then you sell and destroy such a beautiful place our Gods have given us. Even if you just get a 'free' water tank from CHORchill you should know that is wrong!....wrong with your God! Our people cannot buy land...for God sake! how can we sustain our culture? All the land is being bought by non-Goans!!!! Is this acceptable by everyone? I am not saying we should only have Goans buy land, but we have already allowed enough of the quota on Indians to our state. It is not fair for us to take on more and more. I appeal you all, we ask people to sell land to Goans when a Non-Goan is going to offer him/her more money. If we think that telling people only will solve the problem...it will NOT work!! We need to legislate LAWS to require certain areas in Goa be sold to nizgoenkars that can prove their Goan linage. When looks at the United States, the Hawaiian people felt like they were like us at one time, with rich white people from the mainland USA buying their land, the Hawaiian people went up against the powerful United States government and were able to pass laws that restricts major parts of the islands be reserved for people of Hawaiian descent. If we cannot obtain Independence from India than we need to work together to get Special Status that makes sure that land is only sold to our people. It is imperative we do this to save us, as a people, and keep our culture going for a few more hundred years. Right now we are loosing, and we need to acknowledge this. Mr Cruz, I commend you for taking on this fight. All through our history we have had courageous nizgoenkars. We are at a turning point! I believe if we don't act now, it may be too late to turn the train around. PLEASE…time has run out on talking about it....we must act now! I humbly beg you all. Thank you Mr P Cruz.

  3. Dear Trevor : The struggle will start on 15th March at Azad Maidan in the big meeting and no looking back after that. Then we might form a political party, I was there 4-5 months in Goa and met most of the NGO's leaders and some workers. I was having lot of meetings, raids, etc. with them and also gave them idea of the party to everyone to come on a single platform. Only they require the peoples support, the contacts are going on and all NRI's are in full swing. I have a big scare that now the dirty politicians will start their dirty trick to break us down. I promise to you your dreams are near!

In Dubai, Kuwait, Switzerland, USA, Caymon Island, parts of Africa, on Cruiser liners, ship, etc. the work is going on, even the priest are working for this big meeting. But unfortunatley I am in Africa working here, but I and my friends in Dubai who are helping this meeting are in constant touch.

  4. Good idea Mr. Cruz. We need a third front to run Goa, a local outfit where the party leadership may not need to rush to Delhi to take decisions. We had seen these Third Fronts coming up and vanishing. There is UGDP like the Kadamba Bus, anyone can board it or alight, any time provided you pay for the ticket. UGDP is just another shame of Goa as they appear only at the time of elections to sell tickets and make a potful of money. Then we have Suraj Party, not much active. We had SHAVE GOA PARTY created by the dukor of Varca to deceive the Goans and fill his own pockets. Yes, we need to form a party but much before that, we need to identify the leaders who could lead the party, the party manifest and the party constitution that will safegfuard the rights of Goans. Forming a party may be too easy but maintaining it with like minded people with a common agenda will be a task. However, all the disgruntled and corrupt members including Crumb Eaters will rush in to take a seat, will you tell them to get off? So, a strong constitution with values imbedded to become a member is ultimate. Or else the same Tom, Dick and Harry will be there in the new party. Valanka and Viola may even apply for tickets to contest on the new party symbol. Therefore, on what grounds are you going to tell them that they are not qualified to contest? Surely, not Fatorda Ground any more!

  5. I support, it is high time....the church and hindu religious leaders must come together and support a Goa cause, let goans decide who rules Goa and not Delhi...Viva Goa, Viva Goenkars!

  6. I for one agree with you Cruz. We need a party that will be the third front. Even if we are not successful this time around we should not feel dejected and build up for the next. Being there watching we can keep a check through Niz Goenkar on the evil happenings in Goa. We have to show them that we are building in strength and that we are getting ready to bring the tyrant government and the useless politicians down. All the money they have taken which was due for our betterment will be accounted for and they will be prosecuted.

Gone are those days when Money talked and Bullshit walked. The youth know and going ahead they will make the differencea sthey will realise how hard it is to survive even after being educated. They will see the politicians children well off and that will strike a chord that the current lot have not done anything to secure their future. They will hold their parents responsible for taking money and voting incompetent numbskulls to power.

We have to operate on all the fronts. 1. Have a strong medium to to express our view point. 2. Educate the masses and make them aware of the evils and degradation of our society and 3.Have a strong party to win the elections and put an end to the current stat of affairs. We have to have our people implementing our ideas as it makes a difference to our lives.

Lastly, we have to comment Dr. Hubert as he has done the right thing of visiting 60% of the houses. That is the right way as then he will know the people and their problems. Through this exercise I am sure he has got first hand info about the condition people are in and how he can make a difference to their lives. This exercise should be repeated every 6 months even after he has won the elections as only then he will be able to gauge how much he has accomplished and how much more that needs to be done. Among the current lot I have never seen any of them visit my house even once and neither our vaddo. they have taken us for granted and do appear only when they are canvassing.

So Goa and Goans lets go for it and rock the party. Let us get ourselves a NEW and HEALTHY Government and bring Goa back to its lovely olden and golden days.

    Mog Asundi

  7. The biggest and most important criteria should be a criminal free record. If one wants to contest then he must also be literate. He should be able to read and write. The concerned persons last 2 generations should have been thorough Goans living in Goa. There must be transperency about their personal holdings and those of their close family. No gifts will be entertained of any kind.

Please add other points for your perfect candidate.

  8. Good Food for Thought P Cruz ! We have all been voicing our opinions on this side whilst exposing the corrupt and criminal political establishment that we have. All of this will lead us no where if it is not translated into actions on the ground. We will only keep harping on this forum whilst the corrupt and the criminals elements in our political establishment destroy Goa even further.

Nothing will change with these corrupt national parties, Goa definately need regional party with honest and like minded people at the helm to work towards the progress of Goa. My dear Goan look at the current politcians like Moti-Dongor Godfather Gandu CM, slum-promoter Mauvin, Pilot HM, Chorchill and Bros.,Monserette and MGP and Bros., Rane (Father-Son Duo) and rest I don't have to name them you know very well. All are indulged in open corruption without any fear right under everyone's eyes and yet we are blind the only reason we are selffish and care a damn attitude.
As said by Mr. Cruz I too beg to our Goan people to change your mindset, forget these corrupt politicians they are for themselves and their family to gulp as much wealth as they can while letting out handful of notes and unknown gift, with this small token we sacrifice our Mother land to non-Goans. Most corrupt politicians like Monserett doles out even motorbikes and household goodies, has any one wondered from where so much money comes from?. Definately, nobody will shell out his/her hard earned wealth. My suggestion and kind advice to these people to take whatever they give but at the time of vote do right thinking and do wisely to elect most honest person who is cared about Goa. We should think about Goa and future of our children before letting these corrupt people to ruin Goans, otherwise we Goa and Goans are doomed forever.

To D Justin::: Just a small correction to" filling their empty coffers".This should read filling filling more and more and more and more of their overflowing coffers. Not one but many.As soon as one is full it is on to the next one.In the bargain they are also filling coffers for their immediate families and relations.
Very soon insteadd of just owning luxury cars like BMW`s..the will be owning luxury personal aircraft and yatch`s.
Hopefully someday all this opulence they live in will be subject to "PEOPLES RULE", asis currently happening in Egypt,Tunisia,Libya and has happened in Iraq. The Royal Kingdoms of the Middle east too are now uneasy about People power.
I personally do not see any Grandeur in Palaces, when a countrys citizens are going hungry and live in abject poverty.
Does a country really need several hundred Palaces?Do our Goan MLA`s need several luxury homes and cars.?

  12. Dear P Cruz and friends who have commented here. All praise worthy comments, and I've been thinking for a long time about this, and here's what we should actually want and need. Please dont start yawning, it's only my dream and you don't have to pay to dream, right?
Well, here goes: 20 years from today, I dream of a Republic of Goa, where Indians and all others will need a passport to enter. So the goans will have more control over the influx of migrants.
In order to achieve this dream, we need to form a goan party that has no affiliations whatsoever with any current mlas, mps and any other political party.
Next, we need this party to win a majority and form a government for at least two consecutive terms, when gradually we can stop asking favors from the centre. If the above goes on for about four consecutive and complete terms, with the help of politicians faithful to our party, we can ask India for independance.
Goa is ALMOST SELF SUFFICIENT IN EVERY WAY. We can import the things which can't produce, just as other counties do.
It's a long and hard journey, I agree..... BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT.
There, I've said it,... more to follow.... Call me crazy, but it's MY dream. Thanks Menino, Thanks all.
    Viva Goa.

  13. P. Cruz, I am with you on this. Time for action, bro's and sis. We must actively participate. But make sure that the present set of fleas festering on politicians (crumb eaters) are kept at bay. like the politicians, they too have built their nest egg, albeit at a lesser scale.

    P. Cruz has given us good food for thought. We do need a new regional political party to keep the national parties out. With the present political set-up, decisions about Goa are not taken by true Goans, but by outsiders and then imposed on Goans. Our politicians, for every decision, major or minor, have to rush either to Delhi or to Mumbai to get their orders.

We need a new political party, "a true Goan dedicated party", to fight for special status (not merely to obtain economic benefits, but also for the protection of Goan land and identity), to fight against corruption in Government offices and much more.

Already several citizens' groups have come together to form the Goemchea Rakhondarancho Awaz, which is planning to organize a rally at the Azad Maidan to protest against Government's misdeeds. The GRA will have the onerous task of identifying honest and dedicated leaders who can draft the party Constitution and Manifesto. A problem will be how to keep disgruntled, corrupt and discarded politicians from infiltrating into this new set-up and polluting it.

As I will not be able to attend the rally due to health related problems, I wish the organizers success in their endeavour.

Cruz, your enthusiasm is abounding and oozes the freshness of an orchid; I only pray that it spreads around like a wild fire. I see on this forum a lot the zest and overflowing with passion, at times uncontrolled, it is good to note how emotional we are about Goa, sadly wearing emotions and passion on our sleeves will not bring about a change. To have a change in the political sphere of Goa will take some doing.

We are all aware of the power of money and the fragility of our good intensions in the face of graciousness and generosity. I don’t mean to discourage, but remind every Niz Goenkar that it’s going to be a tough fight and we’ll have to be ready for it.

It is a fact that more than 45 % of the voters will be under the age of 25-30 and it is the youth that can assert their influence on the out come of the next election. Today’s youth is educated, he is vibrant and he is ambitious and I am sure more than 90% of the youth want a change in Goa, so we have the resources but to be effective there is a need to harness them.

If Niz Goenkar can start a campaign to target the youth and convince them that the future of Goa lies in their own tender hands, we have chance. The youth then in turn have to influence their elders at home, some of whom are brain washed by our corrupt politicians.

If the generation next can step it up, there is no way the money power of our corrupt politicians will win over the emotional ingredients of our youth and its exuberance.

P Cruz has worked tirelessly for the greater good of Goa.His cause and service is very noble indeed.
His article is inspiring and is what I am sure most Goans will agree with and support.
Goa surely needs a 3 rd Party. This Party should bebased on solid principles unlike UGDP or SGF.The UGD\p & SGF are purely useless Parties. They are controlled by very Corrupt Politicians and Advocates. They are known to make more noise than produce anything of substance.Members of these PArty`s are also known to change sides when it is convinient.Churchill is such a case in hand.Churchill has never been a dedicated Politician to the cause of one single party. He changes Party`s faster than his soiled underpants. This is an act of a big time crook. He defects to PArty`s where he can benefit finiancially.I doubt the Congress Party is Churchills last stop.In due course please expect him to change Party based on the lamest excuse. He is now grooming his daughter Valanka and son to enter Politics.
Big Lips Valanka does not have a mind of her own and so should be discounted.
I have yet to see her stand on the current state of Goa.She has already been branded as a TAX & COMMISSION collector for her father. This is not only well known , but a tryue fact. She is pretending to serve her constituents,by first helping herself to immense wealth. This accumulation of wealth by the Churchills is used to subdue the constituents.
The Churchills will never be able to contest Elections in a "LEVEL PLAYING FIELD".The will use their ill gained money to further their cause.
This is where I salute Dr Hubert Gomes. He is trying to show Goans that might is not right.
Niz Goenkar which was started dedicatedly by Mr Menino Fernandes of Valpoi, has proved to be a great forum for Goans to share their views ,ideas and concerns. There has been a lot of good and bad debate. That is what makes great democracy.
Niz Goenkar has received propositions to form a Party. However I personally believe is needs to establish itself a bit more and be seen to be a serious headline making organisation, before it launches into a Party.Niz Goenkar is only a year old.Additionaly I feel Niz Goenkar (Forum),should be the mouth piece and propoganda machine for a Party of a different name, but with sincere and dedicated members that comment here. The current mainstream Newspapers in Goa,namely O heraldo or NAvhind times are mouthpieces for the Congress or BJP party.I feel Niz-Goenkar should also be actively supporting a new 3rd party that is controlled totally from within Goa.
P cruz can be assured that he will receive support from me and all well wishing Goans as soon as a 3rd Goan and regional party is formed.
The current NGO , that are about to hold a meeting in Azad MAidan on15th March, will be a good launch pad.
The Niz Goenkar forum , I am sure will offer all the assistance it can and in the best way it can.
In an earlier article Menino Fernandes of Valpoi has made it clear that his "little baby" (Niz Goenkar) should remain a Forum.I hope people will respect his wish.
I once again would like to extend my support to P Cruz in his ambition to form a new ard Goan Party.
He has been very dedicated and has worked selflessly and tirelessly for this cause for a truly Goan Party.
I am sure , i along with others would like to wish him all the very best to see his dream come true and assist him in whichever way we can.

  18. Comrade P. Cruz I and other members of Niz Goenkar are with you. Let us think of building a stronger foundation with True Goans as the base supporters and build on Goans that are fed up of the Past and Current regime. With unity we can make a strong Impact "but be aware of infiltrators".

A third good, honest and strong Goans party, by honest Goans for Goans is long over due, we cannot fight corruption by having corrupt, crooked and back stabbers in the party, there will be infiltrators too. Forming a party is no easy task once you start there is no turning back. Winning over the crumb eaters is not going to be easier. Voters must come out with their hearts and conscience and vote for a better change.

  24. We must do this....for the future of our culture and OUR Goa. We know if we don't do this, our future is grim. Knowing what we know now, how can we live with ourselves knowing that we didn't act in time to save us and OUR Goa??? WHAT DO WE TELL FUTURE GENERATIONS OF GOAN YOUTH 20 YEARS FROM NOW THAT WE KNEW WHAT WAS TO HAPPEN BUT WE DIDN’T DO ANYTHING TO STOP IT????? How can we live with ourselves then???? I see great intelligent suggestions above....we need to take them and run with it. It might be difficult to compete with tv's, refrigerators, water tanks, computers etc. but we must appeal to our people poor or rich, young and old that what we do now will determine our future. No longer should we remain silent. I'll never forget the words of a Goan activist; she was in her 70s then. She was a woman no more then 5 feet tall, with a sari that barely clung to her thin frame, with paper-white hair and with her voice now faulting... In her frail soft voice, when I asked her why she did what she did, she replied, 'In life you have to fight'....These were the words from this tiny woman that shocked me….and she was also a deeply devoted person to her faith...... Finally I just want to say, in the US they said that a black man would never be President or live in the White House where, only a white man lived before. But they did it! In Egypt, Tunisia and Libya they are overthrowing 30 years of corruption and subjugation. This is a new world order. Are we going to join in and be part of this just movement? Are we going to 'fight'?

To JOGLESH::: I have heard that the Election Commission of India is going to put a ceiling (limit) on the amount, Politicians can spend (and which has to be accountable & transparent), in forthcoming elections.I also believe that those that contravene this, will be barred/ de-selected. from politics.I only hope this will come true.
Buying Votes should be made a criminal offence and punishable by Law.
If this was to be applied, one can be assured of free and fair elections. Also the current bunch of corrupt politicians will be sent packing to their dens.

Most of the Goans who are not living in Goa but abroad can surely be a part of your Party. May St. Francis Xavier give you the strength and Spiritual power to fight for the rights of all Goans.

Goa can only be independent when the Government of Goa will ask for it, as long as we Goans are Voting for Congress, BJP, NCP and all other Invaders Indian Parties we will never dream of Independence only we will in Forum like this speak and argue over / about it.

It's high time that we with people like Cruz try to form a Pure Goan Party. With Ideologies from our beloved saviour of Goa Dr. Jack de Sequeira.

I'll support any Party or organisation that wants independence from India. I can't support the idea of Special status as it's a big lie, "Special Status mean Invaders Indians forever" forever we have to sing Jana Gana, Hindi will run over us and Indians will make us think Pakistan is robbing Kashmir. Invader Nehru fooled us once, Indians and ignorant Goans should not try that trick again on us Goans.

If we can target the youth and convince them that the future of Goa lies in their own tender hands, we have chance. The youth then in turn have to influence their elders at home, some of whom are brain washed by our corrupt politicians.

If the generation next can step it up, there is no way the money power of our corrupt politicians will win over the emotional ingredients of our youth and its exuberance.

  33. My dear Goans
During my lunch break i was going through this article and the comments that followed
A frank suggestion to all my dear Goans all around the globe,
there are no two ways about thinking that all of us need to clean the mess that we are in today.
But for the mess as big as this we need to have proper planning
we say "failing to plan is planning to fail"
IF our objective is to clean the system than we have to focus on short term and long term plans to achieve the same.
The ones who are ruling us are the same people amongst us who breathed the same air , drank the same water , ate the same food. who will give the guarantee that the new breed will be good.
when crores of rupees are across the table even a dying person comes to life
And definitely it will take ten years to change these rotten lot till that time Goa will be gone
Let us start with little short term plan
1)exposing the corrupt people from top to bottom.
2)pack up all non goans doing business in Goa.
3)support all NGOs who are fighting for their rights.
4)support individuals who are fighting for their rights.
5)and every thing that you fill is going against the interest of Goa and Goans.
6)lets design a logo or symbol or a few worded phrase to be pasted on your vehicle for easy identification.
7)very important, publish on this blog your success stories however small they could be.

The time is running out !!!!!!
    just do it !!!!!
now you say i deed it!!!!

    good bye for now

  34. Good one Vinod. We have to expose all the rogues in the government offices who are asking for bribes. All the rogues who have given false certificates to these filthy squatters on our land should be exposed and flogged in public. I'm sure most of these monkeys in the government offices will not be Non Goans.
Last but not the least catch the maha chor of Goa who has brought this filth in and given refuge for his vote bank. All the wealth accumulated by the ministers should be confiscated and redistributed among the people of Goa and lets make a new beginning. Viva Goa, Viva Niz Goenkar

  35. Let us all welcome this initiative from our hearts from everyone who are working for the benefit of our beloved mother land in good spirit and in one unity. Yes we drastically need this transition to happen at the earliest possible time or else we will not be left with any other options but to bow down our heads to these ghantis and corrupt politicians and do whatever they say is right even if it is wrong. Here is our chance to play the last and correct trump card and blow the trumpet call for awakening from our deep slumber and to prove it otherwise we will have to suffer and thrown out of our own motherland. Let the wind of change take place with good faith and brotherhood among all religions. Let our egos not be like chicken hearts but fearless and abounding with fire to proceed in the right zeal. Let this gathering draw more and more people to our side and be an inspiration one to the new generation to come forward to fight for our rightful cause. VIVA GOA.

  36. @ Freddy : The NGO's have already started to develope the youth and we have to support it. There is a man called Bismarque, he does programmes for the youth and once I was invited for that. He does field trips in Goa, where he show destruction to Goan land. I want to help him and get the youth involved in it. I will explain to you all our programme once we are ready.
