MARGAO: A rally was organized today on 18th February at Margao by the lawyers in support of suspended Judge Desmond D’Costa. The rally which started from the Sessions Court of Margao ended up at the Lohia Moidan. The rally was organized by the South Goa Advocates Association headed by Advocate Anacleto Viegas.
In a recent move by the Bench of Bombay High Court, suspended Judge Desmond D’Costa from his services. All the lawyers of Goa rose against the order and even boycotted the courts to show their solidarity to the suspended judge.
The rally was attend by a large crowd and different NGOs. Niz Goenkar too participated in the rally in support of the suspended judge D’Costa. With banners the rally participants marched towards Lohia Moidan where a meeting was addressed. Niz Goenkars were in the forefront of the rally.
The rally was attended by all noted advocates and people in general. There were several speakers who are advocates which included Radhatrao Gracias, Ashok Naik from Vasco, Prashant Naik from Quepem, Amaia Prabhudessai,, Sririkant Naik, Ponda, NGO Sabina Martins, NGO Roland Martins, Dr. Jorson Fernandes from Cuncolim, Dr Francisco Colaco, Adv Mike Mehta, Adv Rajeev Gomes, Adv. Arsekar and m,any other prominent figures
Adv. Anacleto Viegas spoke at the start of the rally and he said that the state is not complete and that it is their primary demand that the state has its own High Court. He also said that the High Court supervises all the works of the state. Work on the road, beaches, rivers, pollutions and all the activities conducted in the state come within the ambit of the High Court. The governance of the state is with the High Court. He also said “we do not know how the governance is given to another state when we are a separate state and with Opinion Poll we have kept our state a separate state”.
He also said that their demand is for justice and for those who are penalized for no fault of theirs for reasons beyond logic, beyond law. After the rally reached Lohia Moidan, it was addressed by the advocates like Mike Mehta and others in a line demanding the revocation of the suspension of judge Desmond D’Costa
For further view of the rally by the public a video clip has been posted on the site right on the top in the video section.
Niz Goenkar has shown the way that it is high time for Goans to stand up and fight for causes. I was very much surprised with the presence of such a huge gathering of Niz Goenkars who were shouting slogans demanding our own High Court rather than having Bombay High Court. This is crucial for our Statehood, why should we be under the BHC?
ReplyDeleteA good strength shown by Niz Goenkars with just demands. Hope these and other Niz Goenkars will gather in strength and throw out the 40 Alibaba's at the time of elections and cleanse Goa of the present mess.
ReplyDeleteIn my life, I heard Lawyers fighting in the courts to defend their clients. This is the first time I witnessed Lawyers together fighting against injustice on the streets and outside platforms. It is time for Goans to wake up and together fight corruption and corrupt forces.
ReplyDeleteMenino D' Valpoi, we salute your courage in supporting the causes of Goa. You have educated us against the evil. Help us to bring a change in Goa. Support the cause of the poor man for the sake of our children. Fight against drugs, corruption and people with vested interests is utmost at the moment. Let us fight unitedly.
ReplyDeleteNiz Goenkar support for the cause of Cipriano and fight against the Cowmuth Government and Goa Police showed us that you stand for Goa. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteThe support for the Advocates for a cause from Niz Goenkar is great. We will follow you and give us the strength to go forward. If things are not settled as per our demands, support us when we will go on Hunger Strike from Monday. Let our voice be heard through your forum. Viva Goa, Viva Niz Goenkar.
ReplyDeleteThis is the love of Niz Goenkar for Goans. I can say Viva Niz Goenkar, Viva Goa and Viva Portugal. This is the love of Niz Goenkars for Goan causes. We all stand by you now and forever.
ReplyDeleteBravo Sir Menino, You have shown that Niz Goenkar is not out for money indeed but whole heartedly for Goa and Goans. May God bless you always and we your students will be waiting for your return to Goa to eagerly meet you. We are your disciples now.
ReplyDeleteI bow my head to Niz Goenkar, as no other media came out on the road in support of the Judge except Niz Goenkar. Other media might have been there to collect news but not to join this cause. I pray and request Mr. Menino in future to start a news Channel so that we get uncensored news.
ReplyDeleteSalutes to Niz Goenkar for the video coverage and for posting it on the site. You proved your love for Goan causes.
ReplyDelete@Adv. Samuel, Quepem: as members and followers of Niz Goenkars our support is always for those that are wronged by the corrupt system in Goa. There is too much bad an suffering imposed upon the citizens of Goa. Our main aim is to eliminate crime and corruption and make Goa a better place but we also need others to stand up in unity for their God given rights. God Bless All Goans.
ReplyDeleteNote:As a student Union Desmond stood up for us, least we can do is stand up for him.
Thanks to Niz Goenkar for the video clip and supporting Desmond's case. Let us also remember there are many innocent people falsely accused by our corrupt and criminal politicians in power. Solidarity is power.
ReplyDeleteI was at the rally myself in support of Desmond's case, the cycle of injustice that goes on in Goa must be broken. Politicians and drug dealers have taken over the judicial system of Goa. Honest Judges like Desmond and others are penalised for not crossing the line of corruption, what good is there for our young ones to learn?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Niz goenkar talks the talks and walks the walks ...im so proud to be a Niz Goenkar.
ReplyDeleteThis has brightened my day...Viva Nizgoenkar!
ReplyDeleteI was down in margao, behind kamat hotel and was pleasantly surprised to see the niz goenkars. So I attended the meeting. Its great to see niz goenkar standing in support for the judge Desmond. Like they said yesterday, we NEED a goan high court, out with the mumbai high court, we are not part of maharastra. Down with the ghatti politicians in power now. Let us all goans rise up and show these politicians the door. Good work, Sir Menino.
ReplyDeleteLet this rally be a stepping stone for future action by the people for the people. Desmond should hold his head high and be proud that he has gained more friends. Well done Niz Goenkars for supporting Desmond. I hope our true Goans will now realise peoples power matters, better chance to kick the 40 corrupt destructors out of Goa.
ReplyDeleteAnish Naik, Margao; well said and observed, been there myself to support Desmond he was our student leader and did an honest job than. God bless all those that supported him. Thanks to Niz Goenkar for the video clip. Hope we can rally for other matters regarding corrupt politics.
ReplyDeleteWell done Niz Goenkar and I am proud of you, may the lord give us strength to fight.
