COLVA POLICE TURN UP LATE TO STOP BULLFIGHT

MARGAO: Colva police as usual reached late at the venue of a bullfight venue at the road junction leading to Sernabatim on Tuesday, while two buffaloes locked horns, leaving one badly injured at the end of the big fight.
The bullfight began at around 9 am, but the men-in-uniform were nowhere to be seen. Even when a police vehicle came close to the venue, the bullfight continued, with the buffaloes literally come close to the road. The police are believed to have intervened only after the fight came to an end, and seized the injured buffalo, which was later taken to the Colva Police Station.
The police late arrested and released on bail one Aslam Beppari, believed to be owner of the injured buffalo. The police have registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act against Beppari and one Mario.  Till late this evening, the injured buffalo was still found tied near the police station and the police said the animal will be released upon orders from the court.

  1. Many may not agree with me, Bullfights had been a tradition for Goans for centuries which was stopped by Monika Ghandi. The Ghandi family members have betrayed Goans in all aspects of life. What are south Goan and other MLAs' doing bring back our tradition values? It seems Goans are sitting on a losing battlefield.

  2. Diogo may I ask you something? When you are hurt you express yourself your pains and sorrows. These poor animals they are forced into fights and get wounded. Do you know the pain they feel? They cannot express as they cannot talk, Just imagine their pain. It is easy to enjoy at the cost of these poor speechless animals. Diogo try to put yourself in their place and get back to comment. Do not bring in the animal politicians here. Have pitiy on these speechless animals.

  3. Unfortunately why talk of just bullfights in which the animal gets injured sometimes gravely, what about animals being slaughtered so cruelly, what about the cow being slaughtered in an open field, what about the manner is which a pig killing is killed.I am not advocating anyone not to kill an animal, but do we use the right way to slaughter it? It's just in humane to slaughter an animal in a cruel way just because they have no voice of their own. Lets at least give them some respect.

Maria, are u vaggi or a non veggi, fyi everything we consume has life, plants, animals as well as humans, so let's starve to deaths, that's what u want to convey ? Is poverty not cruelty ? How many people die of hunger ? Bull fight is cruel, what about wars, are they humane ? What about fishing is that not inhumane in your context ? I do not condone cruelty to any living being, but we cannot take away our traditions and our customs that have been a part of our lives for centuries, Spain still has it’s traditional bull runs and bull fights, don’t they ? We have to get our priorities right, I may offend a lot of animal right activists but the truth is they prefer to spend all their energy in saving animals rather than humans ! And that’s a fact or check M Ghandhi she is saving animals and her son is spewing communal venom, how is that for human and animal rights ?

  6. The Goa Police's motto is "Better late than Never". So that's it. Please do not criticize them!

  7. I feel that Maria, does not eat fish, does not eat chicken, does not eat beef, does not eat pork (although I know that she does). And how a pork is killed? The way I saw it in my younger days, it was either by running after it with sticks and hammering to death, or the Agshikars tying them on their bycicle brackets to their kingdom come.

  9. Dear Freddy, I did not mean it in a way you say, it was just my internal feeling for a live animal not that is already slaughtered or eaten up. Do not be so harsh to me.

I hope people will respect Maria`s personal views. He comment is based on her personal feelings on these Blood sports.
In ancient & medieval times there also used to be Human Blood Sports. It was Gladiators,Fencers,Jousters /Matadors etc.
Over time many of these blood sports involving human beings v/s Animals have been banished and banned. The modern form of such blood sports is Boxing /wrestling/ kick boxing/cage fighting. However Human blood sport is governed by rules.
On the other hand animal blood sports has no such rules or referees. To some it is a Gamblng game or sport.
Many animal blood sports are now banned all over the world. Here in the UK Fox hunting is banned.Dog & Cock Fighting too has been banned in several countries.Spain is still in the proccess of banning Bullfighting. Many circus and dancing bears (notably in Turkey and East Europe) too, have been banned from performing, due to cruelty.
On a personal level, I have never enjoyed Animal Blood sports. It makes my stomach churn.I am sure there are many other forms of entertainment that Humans can enjoy.I hope you will agree with me.
Society these days is far more ciivilised.Television and Radio provides lots of entertainment for human consumption.
I also find the stray dog menace in all of Goa , in every village and every beach, and every corner, disturbing and cruel.
Maybe Goa Politicians should focus on finding a solution for this problem (for mans most faithfull friend).
The dog menace is a far larger problem , than the Bullfighting.
However ,I would not mind seeing a few of Goa`s corrupt Politicians being put in a "Ring", to fight till death.
I am sure all of Goa would pay good money to see this as a Sport.we could start with Mickky v/s Churchill.

Sorry Maria, I did not mean to hurt your feelings, I was just making a statement. we must all understand that one man's meat is another man's poison and vice versa, there are some things that we have to live or can live with, like being non veg, the main source of fiber and protein is meat, but with a lot more people being health conscious today meat is less consumed, but will we ever be able to stop the massacre of animals, of course not ! It’s a cruel world dear and neither you nor I can change it, it’s a fact.

Though, what we can fight for is protection of endangered species and we all know, what they are, farm animals do not come under that category. Horse racing is cruel too, but can we stop that ? Now the instincts to fight are inbred in all animal including humans, don’t we see animals fighting on farms or road sides ? Boxing is a cruel sport but it’s very popular and a top earner. We have to understand that the bulls in a bull fight are not ordinary bulls, they are especially bred bulls for fighting purpose only and they are expensive to maintain too, so don’t you think we can live with a little cruelty compared to a lot more cruelty around, in a lot more cases ? Once again I am extremely sorry if I have hurt your feelings, but life has to go on dear, I too have a soft heart, I can never see blood but I digest some evil as acceptable, what about you ?
