PANJIM: Adv. Aires Rodrigues has today demanded that Goa Chief Minister Mr. Digambar Kamat and Chief Secretary Mr. Sanjay Srivastava should stop shielding the illegalities committed by Goa’s controversial Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that India’s highest paid Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak who has been paid over Rs five crores over the last five years was an unnecessary financial liability to the State exchequer.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that though the Bombay High Court had four months ago forwarded to the Chief Secretary of Goa a complaint of professional misconduct against Mr. Subodh Kantak no action has yet been taken by the Goa Government against the Advocate General.
Adv. Rodrigues has alleged that the file was just unnecessarily shuttling around between the offices of Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Law Secretary and Special Secretary Home.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that this was contrary to the Chief Minister’s recent assurance that all files would be cleared within a week.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that the complaint against Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak was that he had in rank conflict of interest appeared for a private contractor in a matter before the Bombay High Court at Goa where the State of Goa was also a party.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that in Writ petition 365/2010 before the High Court at Goa filed by Mr. Govind Nagvenkar where the State of Goa was also a party, that Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak had appeared for one of the private contractors Primeslots Events Private Ltd.
Adv. Rodrigues stated that Mr. Subodh Kantak instead of upholding the dignity and decorum of the high constitutional post of Advocate General had tarnished the image and sanctity of the Advocate General’s post by not maintaining high standards of professional ethics.
Adv. Rodrigues further stated that Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak in yet another case of professional misconduct has appeared for a Panjim Market shop keeper in a matter filed against the Corporation of City of Panjim.
Mr. Subodh Kantak appeared before the Panjim Civil Judge Junior Division in Regular Civil Suit 141/ 2010/ D on behalf of the shop keeper Mr. Hemantgiri Goswami against whom the Panjim Police has registered a criminal case for damaging a shop which is part of the alleged Panjim Market shops scam. Adv. Rodrigues also stated that Mr. Subodh Kantak could not have appeared against the Corporation of City of Panjim also because he was earlier the lawyer for the CCP.
