CM SAYS GOVERNMENT WILL PAY FAIR COMPENSATIONS TO LAND LOSERS

PANJIM: Under pressure to provide better compensation to land losers, the government has put the process of formulating the new land acquisition policy on a fast track and the basic aspects like determining the market rate in various parts of Goa and providing suitable annuity for 20 years to losers of orchard and agricultural land, will be finalized by this month end.
Chief minister Digambar Kamat told a press conference on Wednesday that the government has decided to set up a mechanism to work out fair compensation to land losers.  The government is studying various bills and acts on land acquisition and settlement in a bid to bring out a policy that will do some justice to the land owners, Kamat said.
A committee headed by law commission chairman Ramakant Khalap has been constituted to formulate the land acquisition policy. "The panel will determine a market rate in various parts of Goa and also decide on providing suitable annuity for 20 years to losers of orchard and agricultural land," Kamat said.
Earlier, the CM chaired a meeting to discuss a note on proposed amendments to land acquisition laws submitted by the law commission and issues related to overhaul the law were discussed threadbare. (TNN)
