TRAFFIC BROUGHT TO A HALT AT BAGA-CALANGUTE ROAD

MAPUSA: Peeved over the closure of some routes to the public, a rasta roko was staged at Calangute, on Monday afternoon, that brought traffic along the Baga-Calangute road to a complete halt for 3 hours.
According to sources, former Calangute sarpanch, Mr Joseph Sequeira, who led the rasta roko was critical of the manner in which there was restricted entry and people were being put to a great inconvenience due to strict formalities.
At 3 p.m. a rasta roko was staged that brought the entire traffic along the Calangute-Baga road to a standstill.  For 3 hours, there was complete chaos with the police and the traffic police having a tough time to deal with the situation.  Mr Sequeira, when contacted, said that it was not right to put to hardship the people of Calangute due to Sunburn. He said that in view of this the rasta roko was staged. The roads were then cleared by 6 p.m.
