BASIC FACILITIES TO BE SETUP IN SCHOOLS: FUNDS SANCTIONED FOR 74 SCHOOLS

PANJIM: The government, taking note of the basic facilities required by the students, has sanctioned ` 1.5 lakh each, for construction of separate toilets for girl students. Altogether 74 government schools around the state have been sanctioned the funds. In addition, ` 25,000 have been given to the schools, for setting up drinking water facility.
Meanwhile, the department of education has initiated an exercise to recruit new teachers in schools, with more than 50 teachers linked to it are set to retire by the end of this year. A senior official of the department stated that interviews for recruiting new teachers have already been completed and the list of the selected candidates would be put up within next few days. "The exercise is being carried out as large number of primary teachers would be retiring this year," he said.
It was further informed that the selected teachers will receive their appointment letters immediately, so that the students do not face any inconvenience once the schools reopen after the Christmas vacation.
In another development, the department of education has made provision for vehicles for the zonal educational officers. There are altogether 11 such officers appointed around Goa, and they are required to travel for inspecting implementation of Mid-day Meal Scheme, as well as for general school inspection. (NT)
