OFFENCE REGISTERED AGAINST DAYANAND NARVEKAR FOR FORGING SONs BIRTH CERTIFICATE

PANJIM: Mapusa police have registered a case against Goa Cricket Association (GCA) president Dayanand Narvekar for forging his son's birth certificate to reduce his age and to ensure that Ganesh Raj would play in the U-15 Goa cricket team. Acting on a complaint filed by Shekhar Salkar, the police on Thursday registered a case against Narvekar under sections 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of IPC.
Salkar said that he had filed the complaint almost two months ago, "As the GCA president had forged documents to ensure that his son would get to play three times in the U-15 category, thereby denying an opportunity to a good, eligible player." Police sources said the complaint was registered after the director of prosecution opined that the police should register an offence against the Aldona MLA and former law minister.
In his complaint, Salkar has alleged that Narvekar not only forged his son's birth certificate, but also got him to play in the U-15 Goa cricket team under two different names three times. This, even though BCCI rules state that a player can play U-15 only twice. Salkar further allegedthat Narvekar registered his son's birth at two places-—Pilerne and Mapusa.
In Pilerne, the birth certificate states that Ganesh Raj Dayanand Narvekar was born on February 28, 1993, the birth registration was done in November 1994, and a live birth report was attached by Dr Chodankar's hospital stating that Ganesh Raj was born at the hospital. Another birth certificate was registered in January 1995, with the Mapusa municipality, under Ganesh Raj Dayanand Narvekar, and showing the date of birth as February 28, 1993.
However, U-15 category, Salkar's complaint states that Ganesh Raj played under the said name in 2005-2006 and 2006-2007, and as Anish Narvekar in 2007-08. Meanwhile, it is learnt that Narvekar has already cancelled the birth certificate issued by the Mapusa municipality. When contacted, Mapusa PI Rajesh Kumar said, "We are looking into the matter and can't divulge any information at the moment." "I have nothing to comment. Let the police investigate the case," Narvekar said when contacted. TNN the live birth report attached to it is signed by Ganesh's mother Sushma Narvekar stating that her son was born at home, Salkar's complaint states.
It further alleges that Narvekar also had a birth cerficiate issued by the Mapusa municipality which shows Ganesh Raj's birth year as 1992 instead of 1993. This, Salkar has claimed, was to get Ganesh Raj admissions into school. All this was done when Narvekar was in power as a cabinet minister, Salkar has alleged. As for playing thrice in the U-15 category, Salkar's complaint states that Ganesh Raj played under the said name in 2005-2006 and 2006-2007, and as Anish Narvekar in 2007-08. Meanwhile, sources said that Narvekar has already cancelled the birth certificate issued by the Mapusa municipality. When contacted, Mapusa PI Rajesh Kumar said, "We are looking into the matter and can't divulge any information at the moment." "I have nothing to comment. Let the police investigate the case," Narvekar said when contacted. (TNN)

  2. Former deputy chief minister and Congress candidate in Aldona constituency Dayanand Narvekar has soot on his hands. For an accused in the cricket ticketgate scam which shamed Goa and rocked the nation in the not too distant past, Narvekar is at peace and refreshingly candid as he knocks on doors soliciting votes. He fields questions hurled at him on his `tainted side' with an innocence that none questions in this constituency.
Although several controversies surround Narvekar, nobody in Aldona is asking for explanations. Narvekar's counter-question to charges that stick is, `Have I been convicted by any court of law?' And the public are pleased as punch with this. They won't put him on the mat after that.
Earlier, when he was under a cloud, caught in a serious controversy, he walked away with the crown, polling the highest number of votes in the state.
What is the magic behind the aura, everyone's asking. But no one's keen on unravelling the mysteries behind the enigma. People in the constituency may agree he is `cunning,' but no one will speak against him openly. Not even his arch rival in electoral battle, former deputy Speaker and BJP candidate Ullas Assnodkar will rake up these scams to his advantage, though the BJP has made song and dance of it statewide to gain political mileage. There seemed to be a blanket of insecurity and unwritten fear thrown over this constituency, as voters spoken to spoke strictly on condition of anonymity. At Torda, Salvador de Mundo, Penha de France, Ekoshi, Pomburfa and nearby areas, the electorate maintained that Aldona was heading for surprises.
Ask them about Dayanand Narvekar and they were diplomacy personified: they would just change the topic. They said nothing negative against Assnodkar either. In one voice, they called him `a gentleman'. An insurance agent-turned-politician, Ullas Assnodkar is basically an agriculturist, and then a small-time businessman in Bardez taluk. But today, he is a full- time politician.
A well-behaved person, he enjoys a good reputation in Aldona which he nurtured for the last three years. But with Narvekar pitted against him, he is on shaky ground. In the past, Ms. Fatima D'Sa was elected to the Assembly on a Congress ticket from this constituency. This time she cannot not contest as she has been disqualified for failure to file accounts sheets to the returning officers after she lost elections a second time. In keeping with the shifting sands of Goan politics, she is now vice-president of the NCP, which has fielded a candidate in Aldona. Of course, she wants to make a dent in the figures of her main political rival, Narvekar.
If one believes in a magic potion that can alter electoral mathematics at the hustings, then Aldona is the place where results promise to be dramatic, defying all projections.
Way back in 1994, Congress did well here, but there has been a slide down, the BJP taking over. This time there are five candidates - Rosario Fernandes (NCP), Harihar Chodankar (MGP), the other key players.
Aldona is a rich village, known for chilli cultivation, which has lend its name to the constituency. The constituency is flush with Gulf money with most of the youth here employed abroad in well-paid jobs.
All said and done, the real fight here is between Narvekar and Assnodkar.
