POLICE CONSTABLE SUSPENDED FOR TAKING BRIBE

PANJIM: A police constable attached to the foreigners' registration office (FRO) was suspended on Monday for demanding a bribe from two Latvian nationals in order to extend their employment visa in Goa.  Sources said that constable Kishore Naik had demanded 60,000 from Barazna Anzeline, 33, and Pogrebnaja Jekaterina, 29, for ensuring the extension of their employment visa.
The two Latvian nationals, in their complaint to SSP VV Chowdhary, alleged that despite paying the money to the constable, their visa was not extended.
Further, sources said that the constable had allegedly told the foreigners that he had contacts in the central Home ministry - which decides on extension of the visas of foreigners. He is also believed to have told them that he had helped others foreigners get their visas extended as well.
"SSP Chowdhary then called the constable for questioning, during which he confessed to having taken money from the foreigners with a promise to extend their visa. The SSP subsequently asked him to state the same in writing, which he did. He was immediately suspended and an inquiry ordered," said police sources.
Simultaneously, the two Latvian nationals were arrested by the Anjuna police for overstaying in the country. They had come to India on an employment visa which expired on August 18 this year, and were arrested after the FRO and home department wrote to the Anjuna police informing them that the two had been staying in Goa without valid documents. The police were also informed that though the foreigners had applied for visa renewal, the same had been rejected by the government.  Both foreigners were released on bail later in the evening, police sources said. 1. Bribe is the venom everyone loves to try and Merit the curse that no one dares to demonstrate.

Police in a democracy such as India are worst than the dogs on the street with very little respect. Inorder to offset the huge monies paid by these police personnel to the department hierarchy it leaves them with no choice but, to accept and not get caught.

He will get away with it because there's no love lost between the Judiciary and the Police, they are the same.
