WOMAN SUCCUMBS IN AN ACCIDENT AT ALTO-DABOLIM

VASCO: In a tragic accident reported near Alto-Dabolim junction, on Wednesday morning, a 44-year-old woman from Quellossim, Cortalim, died on the spot as a speeding Mahindra Bolero jeep dashed her two-wheeler from the rear side.
According to the deputy superintendent of police, Vasco, Mr Mahesh Gaonkar, the incident happened at around 8 a.m. The deceased woman, Rajni Raj Grover, one of the directors of a reputed company based at IDC, Verna, was heading towards her resident after dropping her son who is studying in Std IV in the Navy Children School by her Mahindra Rodeo scooter, bearing registration number GA-02-L-7705. When she reached Alto-Dabolim junction, a speeding Mahindra Bolero jeep, bearing registration number GA-06-T-1050, which was proceeding in the same direction hit the scooter from the rear side.
Impact of the dash was such that the woman was flung on the road. She sustained grievous injury to her face and due to heavy bleeding, she died on the spot.
The jeep dragged the scooter for about a kilometer from the accident spot. It is learnt that the scooter came under one of the front tyres of the jeep, and the driver was forced to stop the vehicle as one the rear tyres burst. Soon after that the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the site of the accident.  The Vasco police have disclosed that there were other three persons seated in the jeep when the accident took place.
The police have registered an offence under Sections 279, 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 134 (a)(b) of the Motor Vehicle Act.  The police conducted panchanama and sent the body to Hospicio Hospital, Margao for post-mortem examination. The Vasco police are on the look out for the jeep driver. (NT)

  1. It is unacceptable tragic death of an innocent women. The driver and the passengers must be caught and named. But in today's Goa will justice ever be served?
