WHAT LIBERATION? By Rupert Coutinho, UAE

UAE: With every freedom and liberation, comes development, equality and prosperity. 50 years later, even after ‘liberation’, Goa stands nowhere in prosperity, compared to other colonies like Macau and Hong Kong. There has been ever increasing deterioration of its land, culture and identity which was preserved by the Portuguese for over 450 years.
It is very strange to see that freedom fighters left no stone unturned, to drive the Portuguese out, but now prefer to remain mute spectators to the high levels of corruption in today’s democratic governance. They are content to be felicitated, by the same corrupt elected representatives, on Goa’s liberation day.
Goa can achieve a lot, only if we have the vision to maintain our unique identity and deliver good governance.

  1. I do not mean to be spiteful or malicious with Rupert Coutinho on the article. I am certainly irritated and disgusted to know that the present generation who know nothing of the Portuguese regime but to hear from some kindred folks or read from some creative articles are merrily bellowing their willows like the bulls on the loose on a Christmas day.

50 years ago, Goa was handed over to the Indian army on a platter by the so called Your Freedom Farters, for a reason. Rupert Coutinho's goes to say, and I quote

"It is very strange to see that freedom fighters left no stone unturned
, to drive the Portuguese out, but now prefer to remain mute spectators
to the high levels of corruption in today’s democratic governance.
They are content to be felicitated, by the same corrupt elected
representatives, on Goa’s liberation day" unquote".

These were those undesirable elements (the Freedom Farters), the scrupolously downtrodden elite, the lackeys of the high soceity soiled the minds of the benevolent, the dominant Goans for democracy beyond the walls they had never seen. You, me and everyone without the shadow of the doubt have to live by it. Do not think of the past but the present democratic corrupt regime ruling the this generation.

finally, to all my dear critics and my fellow readers on the blog. May the Christmas end on a cheerful note and bring in the New Year 2011 the brightest of starts to Your lives. Have a wonderful, wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year 2011.
