NCP MINISTERS STICK TO THEIR SEATS, REFUSE TO STEP DOWN

PANJIM: A day after asking them to resign from the cabinet for their alleged hobnobbing with the Congress legislator in the state, both the Nationalist Congress Party ministers from Goa have refused to step down.
Revenue minister Jose Philip D'Souza and tourism minister Nilkant Halarnkar were asked to resign from the state cabinet by party's Goa unit president Surendra Sirsat on Saturday. The party has initiated enquiry against the duo.
Sharad Pawar-led party had termed their act as 'anti-party'. Sirsat said on Sunday morning that he is yet to receive any resignation from both the ministers.  NCP had dashed its emissary Prakash Bhingsale to the state on Saturday who had met chief minister Digamber Kamat informing him about the decision to drop both the ministers.
Sources said that Kamat was requested to drop both the ministers from the cabinet and induct Fransisco Mickey Pacheco in it. Kamat told reporters on Saturday that he will have to consult Congress high command before dropping anyone from the cabinet.
The dropping issue was kept on hold till further directives as NCP leader Bhingsale, who was camping in Panjim since Saturday, left for Mumbai this morning.  Sources said that Kamat is waiting to get clearance from Congress president Sonia Gandhi to make any further move. (TNN)
