GOA POLICE ARE COMMITTED TO PEOPLE’S SAFETY AND SECURITY SAYS RAVI NAIK

MAPUSA: The Home Minister, Mr Ravi Naik has praised the functioning of the Goa police saying that they were going all out to solve or detect any type of cases.  “It is easy to criticise but have we ever wondered that inspite of several shortcomings, the Goa police are going all out to protect the citizens of the state. Several kidnap and robbery cases have been solved successfully by our police force yet we sometimes fail to acknowledge their services,” Naik said
The Home Minister further said that the law and order situation in the state was excellent except but for some remote incidents.
“A few days back, I personally toured the coastal part of Bardez along with the police team and I found that even till late night tourists were moving around fearlessly, this only shows that Goa is peaceful and compared to other states even if you roam during the nights, there is no risk to your life. All this is because Goa police have established themselves in the state and they have shown that they are a force to reckon with and committed to ensure the safety and security of our people,” he added.
Pointing out that Goa had a population of 14 lakh and a police force of 5,000, Mr Naik said that this was not enough and considering the large inflow of tourists the police force had to be raised to atleast 10,000.
“However we have practical shortcomings due to which such a thing cannot happen. But one thing I wish to stress is that we all must be alert and not depend entirely on the police, we must help Goa police help us and this can be possible only if we are alert citizens,” he observed.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new premises of the Siolim Coastal Security Police Station Mr Naik said that police force in the coastal area required a boost and modernisation so that a check could be kept on anti-social activities and terrorist activities.
“No doubt many a times our police force is not sufficient but if we all do our bit then definitely we can help Goa to become a peaceful state. Our police force is doing an excellent job, there is no doubt about it and it is therefore because of this that Goa is quite peaceful,” he said.
He also lashed out at politicians who were interfering in the police functioning and felt that this should not happen as it was discouraging the police.
The Siolim MLA, Mr Dayanand Mandrekar speaking on the occasion pointed out that robberies particularly in Siolim constituency had increased in the recent past and urged Mr Naik to improve the police force in Anjuna police station and at the Siolim police out-post.
The Director-General of Police, Mr Bhim Sain Bassi said that keeping in view the vulnerability of the sea, coastal security had become important.  “Siolim is the first coastal security police force to be fully operational, second is at Betul and third is at Harbour which will subsequently be functional,” he said.
He complimented the workers who have made this police station ready in two years and 10 months.  The DGP also said that Goa Police is always there to help the people of the state and to maintain peace and security and for this people must also co-operate with the police.
A large number of policemen including DySPs, SPs, police inspectors were present.  Prominent among them were DIG, Mr Yadav, SP of Coastal Security, Mr Omprakash Kudtarkar, police inspector, Coastal Security, Siolim, Mr Anthony Monseratte, DySPs, Mr Serafin Dias, Mapari, Mahesh Gaoncar, Mr Tavares,  Siolim acting sarpanch, Ms Sanisha Torasker, Zilla Panchayat member, Mr Deepak Dhargalkar, PWD engineer, Mr Rego, and other officials were present. Officials from the Indian Navy and Coast Guard also graced the occasion.
