PANJIM: Our state has entered into the golden jubilee year. Liberation day was marked by official celebrations with ministers and bureaucrats attending official ceremonies across the state. Speaker after speaker portrayed different aspects of Goa's liberation. The same speeches are delivered year after year.
This is a story we have grown used to. The accolades for the achievements of both Goa as a state and politicians in their personal capacity has grown greatly over the last few years and we have become increasingly concerned with celebrations. No doubt the state has witnessed a sea change since liberation in 1961.
Patriotism should be shown not only through speeches but through action. All around, we see people complaining and cursing but it is idle to brood over what has happened, and foolish to get angry and look for scapegoats. We will have to gird our loins and work as we have never worked before to save Goa from destruction (TNN)
