MARGAO: All eyes are focused on Betalbatim – the home village of former Tourism Minister, Mickky Pacheco – as the Benaulim-Nuvem felicitation committee has planned a bash on the occasion of Pacheco’s birthday on December 12.
While the grand birthday celebrations scheduled on Sunday evening at the Betalbatim football ground is not something new for the flamboyant legislator, the celebration assumes significance this time round, with expectations that the former minister would convey a message about his political future, amidst indications that he is grooming candidates in most assembly constituencies.
While a host of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders are expected to descend at Betalbatim to partake in the celebrations, sources in the know said that many a probable candidate short listed by the Benaulim MLA to contest the next assembly polls, are likely to share the dais.
In fact, the birthday preparations at the Betalbatim grounds on Sunday has made many a Congress leader from Salcete to wait and watch the developments unfolding on Sunday as the former minister has been preparing grounds to field candidates in all the eight assembly constituencies at stake in the taluka.
Incidentally, there’s an air of excitement amongst Pacheco’s supporters that their leader might make a comeback in the State cabinet before the birthday celebrations or soon thereafter. In fact, speculations gained ground on Thursday when Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat reportedly called on the Governor this morning, but senior Congress leaders said no directions have come from the party high command to induct Pacheco in the cabinet.
Sources in the know said the Benaulim-Nuvem Felicitation Committee 2010 under the chairpersonship of Colva Zilla Panchayat member Nelly Rodrigues are making hectic preparations for the D-Day on Sunday. Raia ZP member Domnic Gaonkar and Nuvem ZP member Wilfred D’Sa are the organizing vice-chairman and organizing secretary respectively.
Sources said the organizing committee has printed thousands of invitation cards and the organizers are expecting nothing less than 10-12,000 guests for the birthday celebrations.
Incidentally, Pacheco’s birthday celebrations in the last two years had been a low key affair, with the MLA even appealing to the people to donate generously towards his ambitious project -- the mobile mortuaries. This time round, the MLA says that he had no option than to bow to the sentiments of his supporters spread across the State. (HD)

Dhupia to be star invitee

Bollywood Actress Neha Dhupia would be the star attraction for Benaulim MLA Mickky Pacheco’s birthday on December 12.
Pacheco would be completing 45 years on that day. Sources close to Pacheco said a massive gathering has been called by the legislator at Betalbatim ground at 6 pm.
Dhupia, who has worked in movies like Action Reply, De Dana Dhan will felicitate Pacheco and she will also address the supporters.
Sources stated that Pacheco is likely to announce his future political plan during the gathering.It may be recalled that Pacheco had hosted massive convention of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) at Betalbhatim, last January.
This will be the greatest get together of the crumb eaters. The pure immorals will gather together to praise another immoral. Hope they will take their mothers and sisters and pledge all out support to rape and kill them. What a shame? This will be another cap of shame on the people who will show up their heads there. What about Sonia Torrado, will she be there?
