FOR THE EYES OF GOANS ONLY

RTI KIOSK by Praxy Fernandes, Sanquelim
We have seen successive governments wasting public money on many unwanted and unsuitable projects in Goa. In reference to the news item ‘Govt may ring in RTI call centre’ I would rather advise the government to set up kiosks in every Taluka to receive and dispense RTI matters.
Many times people who have to traverse from one end of Goa to the other end to file RTI application and then again to collect the information, can then file the application in this kiosk which can then forward the same to the respective department/concerned office and take back the information and then dispense it to the applicant. I would not mind if additional 5 days are added to the 30 days period but surely it will encourage a lot of people to seek more information which is the purpose of this RTI Act, as presently people are hesitating to travel/take pains or come face to face with the PIO for some reason or the other. I also would like the newspapers to be brought under the purview of the RTI Act, 2005 so we can get details on all aspects including the details of the writers on the forum/comment section to prevent frauds and duplicating of identities of those who provide honest views.

Stop Illegal Cansaulim Mega-Project (NRG's pls help)
by Arwin Mesquita, UAE
As recently reported in the Press, The Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim Village Panchayat (A) has shown total disrespect to Gram Sabha resolution demanding the Mega-Project Construction License be withdrawn and (B) disregarded the town/country planning department pointing out that that the construction license, was obtained on the basis of an inaccurately drawn site plan. There is a clear nexus between the elected representatives & the builders lobby. The Cansaulim Villagers must now use all democratic options & propaganda available to stop this monstrosity. I request other Village activists to help the Cansaulim People in this fight; I also ask Cansaulim & other Goan Non Residents, to contact local Cansaulim Anti-Mega Project activists and help them in whatever civilized manner possible; we are all in this together and need to join forces against the Anti-Goans; who’s only objective is to realize illegal profits at the cost of Goa’s Destruction!!

  1. I am honest that I am not equipped with the knowledge of RTI act 2005. But I fully agree about the writers on the forum/comment details be accessible.
