The sorry state of affairs that we see in Cansaulim and other villages of Goa is because the builders and the Panchayat members with the backing of the Government of Goa and the Government of Machinery are hell bent on pushing through these housing projects. Corruption and kickbacks are rampant and it is obvious to all how this evil nexus works.
Take the case of the Gonsalves-Dias Gates Project in Cansaulim itself, if one follows the reports it is obvious that there has been a deriliction of duty not only on the path of the Cansaulim Panchayat but also the Town and Country Planning Department and the Directorate of Panchayats with direct intervention coming for MLA Mauvin Godinho who openly has been working to protect the interests of his cousin Aggie Alcacoas.
Sarpanch Jose Manuel Fernandes has not followed on the mandate of the Gram Sabha, records have been fudged and resolutions that have been passed have not been recorded. A stop order that the Sarpanch issued to Aboobakr Shaikh (who is nothing but Aggie Alcacoas man) and then mysteriously disappeared.
Martha Saldhana a Panch member who openly and unashamedly backs Aboobakr Shaikh the builder has been pressuring the Sarpanch along with her stooges like Ferwin Saldanha (better known all over as bonkan bott)and some of the others have consciously chosen to pressurise the Sarpanch to follow their mandate instead of that of the Gram Sabha.
The High Court should order an inquiry into this whole affair in the Cansaulim Pancahayat and this sordid saga of corruption, breach of law, attack on democratic traditions and constitutional rights will be exposed. For the 22nd August meeting the Secretary got himself admitted in hospital as he would have some answering to do.
The villagers opposing this project have been given the run-around by the Panchayat, TCP and even the Directorate of Panchayats. Finally does anyone know where Fr. Valmiki Gonsalves-Dias is? He and his brother Stuart Gonsalves-Dias sit pretty while being responsible for the destruction that they are wrecking on Cnasaulim not just the environment but it's very social fabric. They bear the moral responsibility for all the attacks, intimidation, harassment from aboobakr Shaikh and these goons that are being meted out on the villagers of Cansaulim including that on the old, the weak, the widows, even Fr. Randall Barretto and now Dr Marconi Correia and others that were attacked at the Cansaulim Gram Sabha recently.

This came is as a comment on the cansaulim incident in one of the articles. Niz Goenkar has done a wonderful job of putting it up as an article. What Nisha has written is true. This should open the eyes of the Goans.
ReplyDeleteWhy are our priests getting invovled into wrong things cannot be understood. This is the reason the name of the Church in Goa gets spoiled. The Bishop should now restrict the priests getting involved in anything without his written permission. The Bishop should also see that he goes through the topics and when he feels it is OK for the priest's involvement then he should give the permission.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't the people (locals) get together unitedly each and everyone of them and beat up this aboobakr in such a way that he does not even in his dreams see Goa. Next should be the person's turn who brought in this type of outsider ghantis, irrespective of whether he is a Goan or no.

ReplyDeleteGoans area sitting ducks without unity. This Aboobakr Shaikh in nothing but a Ghanti and should have been trashed together with whoever supports the him.. Destruction of our beautiful Goa goes on helped by our corrupt Ministers. Our youngsters must get involved in the fore front of politics. The only medicine available on earth to fight these Corrupt Officials is UNITY.
Nisha you could be a good contributer to this site. You could write your articles regularly as this fearless site is for Goans and the Truth. You have brought out a good picture in addition to ROWDIES DISRUPT CANSAULIM GRAM SABHA. Both of you have written well. Aboobakr and his friends should be wiped out from Goa along with those who support them be they Goans or Indians.

However, if the villagers resist strongly and keep the politicians away, they will surely succeed. But what about the villagers who works for these destroyers? They should be shown the way out.

ReplyDeletetransition has always faced opposition from the wrong. your so called "respected ton" can raise voices, but are right but if abubackar and his friends raise their voices against wht they consider wrong then they are called goondas. your "respected ton" has dictators like Sheila Gracias who had taken lessons from the great hitler. the word democarcy doesnt sound good from her mouth. and ur Mr. Calm Dr Marconi is a person who used the same youth for his personal gains and works in the past. he made them the scapegoats during the konkan railway agitation. this same abubackar helped him in this problem and got a case against himself. no one said anything thing then when this Mr Calm doctors was using them. this doctor or urs for the village people. NO. his shutter closes at 8:00 P.M after that any patient visits him he doesnt see them they can go die. Sheila is bekar these days may be her premium collecting days are over. so she has found a new way of becoming popular. these two people are using the innocent villagers for their personal gains i think they are trying to pave a way in politic for themselves. i just hope the villagers realize this soon before its too late. there are many other mega projects coming up in cansaulim but they are not bothered about that because they have personal issues against abubackar. its a fact that most of the buyers in abubackars project are the villagers itself and not foreigners as is the case in most projects. what is wrong if someone is taking the initiative to build houses with a good, beautiful hygienic surrounding. a project which is of no inconvienience to others. as regard to the road or access the concerned people can meet abubackar and solve this issue rather than creating a mess just becoz of 2,3 people who are just using the villagers for their personal purposes.
if we really want progress in our village there are many other issues that is plagueing our village. many of the children still travel to margao or vasco in search of better facilities as regards to education. but noone seems to be highlighting this issue. the garbage issue which is a cause of major concern. the bhatkars and the moankars issue where these landlords consider the moankars untouchables. the roads in cansaulim and many other things. abubackar feels he is right in his stand, and therefore is ready to face and answer each and everyone.
