From the nine-member panchayat body, only four panchas attended the gram sabha. Aggrieved over this, some gram sabha members among the 51-odd present protested demanding the presence of five elected representatives who abstained from today’s gram sabha.
"Since these members were not present, the gram sabha was adjourned," the sarpanch Ms Angela Borges’ response. Asked whether there is such a rule to adjourn the gram sabha in the absence of the panchas, the sarpanch said that she could not do anything since the gram sabha members did not allow the meeting to continue.
Asked when the gram sabha would meet again, the sarpanch said that she has to consult the members who were absent. The deputy sarpanch, Mr Anthony Fernandes when contacted said that he and some other members boycotted the gram sabha as the sarpanch does not take them into confidence while taking decisions. He said that it appears that the sarpanch now is in the minority. Some panch members, who were absent, informed that the sarpanch refused to note some of the proposals in the meeting adding further that if she does not take them into confidence then she should know the repercussions.
When the sarpanch was asked why she was gheraoed by some gram sabha members, she said that some of them were demanding the demolition of a kiosk that sells fast-food. She said that this cannot be done as there is no resolution to back the demolition. The sarpanch also remained silent on an affidavit filed in the High Court regarding a construction. Sources disclosed that the matter is sub judice before the Supreme Court, adding further that there is thorough inquiry going on regarding the affidavit filed in the High Court.
All these are faltu people with no work at all.
