The DySP Mahesh Gaonkar of Vasco sub-division has said that enquiry has been initiated and all the inmates of the jail will be questioned. Mahesh Gaonkar also told the news media that the night officer Mr. Desai who reached the spot around 3:30 AM, on his night round saw the jail guards running here and there and asked them what was wrong. On getting the information Desai informed the concerned officers and they were all on the spot in no time. Mr. Gaonkar also said that immediately they started conducting the search and nakka bandi. Assistant Superintendent of Sada sub jail and deputy collector Mr. Levinson Martins said that there is a need of outside guard around the four corners of the jail and the present one policeman guard is insufficient.
NIZ GOENKAR ADDS: How can the jail guards and the prison authorities be so negligent. They should always check in and out when the inmates go to toilets etc. There should be a high, barbed with wires wall surrounding the jails which the inmates would never be able to scale. If these precautions were taken then none of these incidents would have occurred.
