In a very interesting turn of events, it has come to light that mining and tourism has bad side effects on Human life as it emits carbon dioxide.

One day workshop on Carbon Footprint, scientist at the Sagar Dhara from Cerana Foundation at Hyderabad Sagar Dhara said that global warming was a matter of grave concern, and cautioned that the world was on the verge of collapse within the next three-to-four decades. The scientist was addressing the press briefing after the day long workshop
He said that Goa being a progressive state, all the locals of Goa must understand this issue that the mining industry is releasing carbon emission…the mining industry must show they are responsible, which they have not shown so far. He also said that besides mining, tourism is another factor…this is dumping on the environment.
65 participants attended the day-long workshop, which was jointly organised by Goenchea Xetkarancho Ekvott, Dhulapi Nagrik Kriti Samiti, Goa Federation of Mines Affected People and a vernacular daily in the city. The attendees included activists, school and college students.
The group was also taught on how to compute carbon footprints, results of which were later released for analyses. Dhara explained that the carbon emission for tourists was totalled to 1.3 million tonnes. This was shown through slides presentation. Dhara urged the Government must look at the issues seriously and find a concrete solution to save the ecology. “We are at the cross roads…there are three matters of concern, which includes climate change, deterioration of cheap energy like oil and gas and rapid deterioration of life support system,” he said. He also suggested of discussing the environmental issues on public platform which would thus allow people to make informed decisions about the priority areas that need to be addressed – both lifestyle and institutional change.

  1. If mining is closed and tourism is closed from where will the crooks get their deposits. They secret treasuries will become empty and they will turn mad. By the way let us give Nilkanth Halarnkar a chance to fill his account in the Swiss Bank. He has just opened a new account there

  2. The tourism minister and the mining minister must be cursing the scientist for disclosing the fact about the emittance of carbon dioxide in the nature

I doubt that the government will ever stop mining and tourism. These are two important sectors whereby the politicians fill their dirty stomachs.

  4. What is scientific research to our Goan Governments? They have turned scientific evidence upside down for their own Gains. Criminals are roaming our streets without being charged, but the innocent get framed. Either the price of hafta will go up or the destruction of Goa will be speeded up. Lets see some Honest Goans cone to power. Unity is a must.
