GREAT GOAN THINKERS Below!
Wake up, stand up by Abhijeet Naik, Fatorda
I ask the useless opposition to question the spineless government about when it will take action against all those involved in illegally assaulting Mrs Dora de Souza, Mrs Cheryl de Souza e Sanfransisco, her 10-year-old child Aki, Rita and Shashikala, who were working with Cheryl, Khurus Kanteenwalla, Sebastian Rodrigues and others, including Salesian priest from Sulcorna Fr Mathias D’Cunha. And are all the so-called devout Christians still sleeping? Is your support reserved only for the self-proclaimed Kings and Princes of Goan tiatr? This incident happened on 11 October 2008. The Church needs to stand for its own.
Are we really free? By Lloyd Simões
Are we really free if we cannot walk without stepping in shit? Are we really free if we cannot see each other as fellow countrymen; if we cannot but feel ignored when we want to make our society better? Are we free if we have no say in matters that concern us; if we cannot live our lives the way we want to? Are we really free if we cannot get clean air, water and food? Are we really free if we cannot choose to make this, our land, a better place; if we live this life, but cannot make it better?
Are we really free if we feel helpless in the face of corruption? Are we really free if we live like there’s no use and nothing will change? Are we really free if we have given up hope? Are we really free when the leaders we elect, only steal from us?
Real freedom comes from believing in ourselves, working to contribute to a better society and better future, and believing that we are all one.
No Portuguese comebacks by Joseph Pereira, Diwar
Mandrem MLA Laxmikant Parsekar’s remark in the Legislative Assembly on 30 July that there are people ‘still awaiting the arrival of the Portuguese’ was in bad taste. It was objected to even by the Speaker. Our unique culture, architecture and even many words in Konkani and Marathi have evolved during 450 years of Portuguese rule. Even now, Goans have the option of obtaining Portuguese nationality, settling down in EU countries, and sending precious foreign exchange to our little state.
We are all Goans first and then Indians. We have our own precious identity. The Portuguese left 49 years ago, and they are not coming back. Mr Parsekar is the BJP’s Goa President. He should show more dignity and avoid making derogatory remarks that will make him unpopular with Goans.
NIZ GOENKAR ADDS: Abhijeet you are a true Goan from your heart. You don’t care about caste or creed. We need Goans like you. This shows that our NIZ GOANS have not forgotten their past and that is seen through you Abhijeet Naik of Fatorda. We are proud of you.
