VALPOI: Shifting of weekly market on road leading towards VMC ground was an important and drastic decision taken by Valpoi municipal council is proving to be more convenient for the people as well as traders here.
Weekly Market of Valpoi Shifted to Valpoi Municipal Ground
Vegetable, fruit and other vendors which do there business on weekly Tuesday market was found little bit tense today due to less business but expressed satisfaction on the new venue. A cloth vendor said that this decision is suddenly implemented without informing the people which largely confused people to find the exact location of our shops. Meanwhile, Mr Mutalib Shaikh a stationery shop owner is much more benefited with the change in location and had express happiness over the decision. Mr Kanta Gaonker a retired teacher said that there was a need of changing the old location as there was lack of place and lot of chaos there. ‘Customer of my age was facing lot of difficulties to do the shopping at old location but here its exact place for weekly market’ he maintains.
The only problem many residents of Valpoi brought to notice was the road leading to the Amshekar hospital. As they said that this road should not be used for transacting business as during emergency there will be no alternate route left for the vehicles carrying patients. Another problem may arise will be the market is shifted behind educational hub of Valpoi, which consist of Government middle school, ADEI office, Higher secondary and National school. In future if the market vendors increased than the chaos here will again disturb the student’s studying here and they will be put to inconvenience.
Many residents have also urged the municipality to take care of garbage collection which will again create lot of unhygienic problems to the houses located along the road side and the students studying in the educational hub.
Earlier, weekly market was held at Massordem road which was under heavy criticism as the road was totally blocked and there was hardly any alternate way for people living along the road side. ‘Here there are unexpected rise in vendors who wants to transact businesses on weekly market day’ said civic Chief Umesh Gulelkar who added that the decision of shifting of the weekly town market was taken by whole council members with the appropriate study. ‘Today we can see that vendors are placed systematically and being first day of weekly market we have found some lapses which will be overcome and resolved soon’ he informed and assured that the road leading towards Amshekar hospital will not be obstructed. ‘We will also take care of garbage clearance on a very same day’ he guaranteed.
