MAINA CURTORIM POLICE BUST BETTING SYNDICATE

MARGAO: Maina Curtorim police swooped down on a flat at Rumdamol-Davorlim housing board on Friday evening and busted a betting syndicate accepting bets vis-à-vis the ongoing World Cup cricket matches.
Acting on a tip off that bets are accepted over the phone, a team of Maina Curtorim Police station incharge, PI Sidhant Shirodkar, PSIs Paresh Naik and Suraj Samant and policemen Krishna, Damu Gawde and Gorakhal raided the flat and arrested two persons Deepak Mehta and Imtiaz Kiledar under the Goa Gambling Act.
The team also seized five mobile phones, cash of Rs 11,380, a TV set, BSNL modem, keyboard and CPU.
PI Shirodkar said the accused used to accept bets via a website. The duo operated from a rented apartment.  They have been arrested under sections 3 & 4 of the Goa Gambling Act and for criminal conspiracy under section 120-B of the IPC. The police are investigating.
