WHY CRITICIZE GRA? by Willie Menino Severes, Majorda (Dubai)

The courage, dedication and determination of the leaders of the GRA have to be highly appreciated by all. They maybe a group of small NGO's, but their dream and hard work to bring back Goa's golden days need to be really looked upon.
But, during my short visit to Goa last week I was disappointed to read and hear a lot of criticism against the GRA. Those who support our corrupt politicians for their own selfish benefits are writing negative things about them, which is indeed disgusting. They feel that GRA is just another revolution that can do nothing but fade as time passes by.
I expected a huge turnout for the Azad Maidan meet. But, hats off to those who attended, braving the hot sun that very afternoon. A lot of people are also unaware what GRA really is, whereas some feel that GRA is mostly supported by NRI Goans. This could be due to the fact that GRA has not yet reached every nook and corner of the state, which they desperately need to do so as soon as possible.
A humble request to those who criticize GRA. It is okay if you'll can't be a part of us, but stop talking/writing about GRA and its motives. GRA doesn't need people who watch and talk. It needs true Goans who will fight United for the cause of our homeland.
I also request Goans to ignore these critics, and to gather in large numbers for the GRA Meet in Margao on 8th April. Let us be united to save Goa from further destruction. With Adv.Yatin Naik, Fr. Bismark and Fr.Eremito (to name a few) with us, we shall see the light at the end of the tunnel one day.

  1. We should support GRA, those against GRA are against Independence of Goa. They like the invader Rats to rule us.

I pray that GRA can take our case to the UN and ask for Independence or at least let UN study our case. The language of GOA is Konkani and Portuguese as all our records are in Portuguese.

  2. The people who criticize the GRA are the STRAY DOGS who licks the arses of the PIGS ( POLITICIANS) The true blooded GOANS should ignore them and the GRA should continue their noble work. The complexions of the PIGS completely changed with the first GRA meet and after the second GRA meet , they will go mad.

  3. Many groups of good doers have come and gone and are just a fading memory to many Goans. Either bought by politicians or disappeared for good.
The GRA has a lot of ground work to be done if they are to convince the conman man they are here to stay and fight for the better of Goa.

  4. I agree 100%!!! Having read the objectives of the GRA movement we all should support them, as they are our ‘saving grace’. I realize the movement can't be all things to all people but at least we all agree on the big issues. Let’s give this movement our support; what do we have to lose? The only people that would be against this movement are the 40 Chors and their crumbeaters. PLEASE remember “UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL”. We are loosing OUR Goa......we have to get serious, put your differences away and put forward positive ideas. I believe we should get ‘Special Status’ now and ‘Independence’ next.

  5. I appreciate the GRA working for the cause of the Goans ,it is no doubt a humble begining , but we wish that it grows by the day , It brings to my mind a saying "drops of water makes an ocean" , at least we can feel the winds of change in Goa. Our politicians are really working against the cause of Goans, it was disheartening to know that a non-goan by name Yatin Parekh will find a place as a mayor of Panjim , a person of doubtful character , who will work for the cause of Gujrathi community and other migrants who would have supported him in winning the elections in Goa , he must have bribed Monsarrate for the Post of the Mayor .Our Illiterate Politicians are out to destroy Goa , non of our other Goans Corporaters of CCP Panjim could impress Monsarrate to appoint a Goan.We should keep this in mind that Goa is for the Goans , good work by the GRA , in no other states of India will one find politicians supporting non natives

Those who critise GRA are looters and crumb eaters of current MLA's, for them they don't see anything infront of their eyes except some daily allowance, petty favours and sometime goodies and of course one can see these tamed dog's gather every morning infront of their masters homes. Disgusting to see these people around, they will even lend their wife's and sisters to their master if the time permits.
Let these dog's bark and we should concentrate on our efforts until GRA reaches to every nook and corner of Goa.
Secondly, it is indeed shame on BJP and Maratha people who still have Maharashtra in their heart by not only praising but by accepting and imposing somebody else's language on Goa, when Goa itself has got beautiful cultured language of it's own. It is like parising neighbours mother by pushing your own mother in the backyard.

  7. one man army.
The Goan parents a few years back were forcing their children to study hard to become engineers, doctors, etc.
Today's parents (most of them) are training and forcing their children to become politicians to become multibillionairs overnight.
whoever fights to change the MLAs in next election let them do so.
My one man army fight is to fight the corruption and all the ills that are happening in our bangarachem Goem.

    join my one man army.

    thanks for reading

I agree with most commentators above.GRA should be given a fair chance to evolve.
It is made up of well intentioned NGO`s and is also a newly formed organisation, that wishes to act as a WATCHDOG for Goa.It covers various subjects that affects Goa, its Citizens and its development and above all its future.
Such organisations are required to keep the Government "in Check".It is not the MLA`s that own Goa.It is "we", The people that own it and have a part to play in it.
I am quite sure many Goans would like to offer their support in whatever little way they can.
The need for funding has been vehemently discussed on earlier forums. There has been a lot of hot, critical and acidic debate on this.
I am sure if all legitimate avenues of donations and funding are in place, there will be willing volunteers.
It has become quite obvious here on discussions that Donors should not seek "Self Publicity" or "Shaming" of others for the amounts of Donations they have pledged.Donations or funding should not be a "Public Contest" or "Personal Vendetta".
It demeans the ethos of giving. We should only give what we can truly afford and is within our means.
Many of us go to Church ,Temples and Mosques, where we give money / alms for the benefit of our weaker segments of Society or charitable causes..However, I have never ever heard anyone coming out of these religious Institutions shouting how much they donated, at the collection bags or boxes."
Anyone that chooses or insists ,on displaying the amount of Donations they have made, and insisting too, that it should be displayed in "NEON LIGHTS", must suffer from an inferior complex or has an ignoble motive.
It is also my personal belief , that for GRA to succeed, it needs to make its presence felt at village level.
There is nothing wrong about asking / inviting Villagers to come to a Grand meeting at a central location. However this method causes many logistical problems and is unlikely to touch the hearts of people.Once again I must state I am not being critical, purely objective.
I am sure that many well intentioned people would have liked to have attended the Azad Maidan meeting held recently. However as it was on a weekday / working day/ schoolday, it would only attract a few people, due to their work commitments.Nevertheless it was a good start.
I am sure the GRA will go through a learning curve and in due course appeal to the masses.
I am sure that even if GRA fails as a a collection of Organisations, it will still exist as NGO`s.This is where, we should see it as a "FAILSAFE" organisation.
The NGO`s have been pursuing their activities for a long time now and have, to a great extent become a force to reckon with.
Hence we should offer GRA our support in whatever way we can.

GRA needs the support of every true Goan - niz Goenkar - and their work must be appreciated. They have started from a humble beginning and must increase their propaganda to reach the far corners of the State. We should all remain united.

  10. In Special status we all have to sing Jana Gana, so brother let's forget Jana gana (Special Status) and let's go directly for Independence with the help of the UNO (another impotent Organisation of the World)

  11. I as a Goan living in kolkata have also felt indignant at the various 'tags' attached to my homeland.Of it being viewed as a 'sex sate' etc.etc. I wish more and more people fight for such a cause and ameliorate the miseries that Goa is challenged with.My best wishes to you all

WE have the GRA although it has experienced persons in it, it is still young and we need to support them for the better of Goa's Future.

Goans will definitely see changes in Goa if they do not elect candidates of the current two main Parties. The GRA could be the key instrument in molding the future of Goa, It is important we support them.

It is said Faith can move mountains, The GRA cannot perform miracles but it certainly can bring changes in Goa, They alone cannot do it therefore it is the duty of every Goan to support the GRA to reach their Goal. "Mother Goa Needs Every Goan To Fight For Her" . Can we do it?

  15. Let us gather at Margao for the next meeting and show strength. GRA should first be agressive in reaching the message to the villages and lay out the objectives. I agree with N. Fernandes that the day was a working day but compared to the meeting held yesterday with support for English Medium, it is obvious that GRA didn't propogated the message far and wide. Yesterday's meeting on a working day was at 2.30 p.m, too early, hot sun and was atended by over 15,000 people because it was well publicised and the objectives were made clear. GRA will improve if not many individuals preach the same sermon on the stage.

Out of A large population We cannot expect just five thousand Goans to support the GRA. Let us unite and spread the word around, this fight for our independence should be a lasting one.

  17. Yes, our paradise has been destroyed in the name of this 'Tourism'. We even had a former 'Tourism Minister' that played the part. Goa sadly is where drugs, sex and murder and Bollywood has a field day with it. A lot of indian people have asked about Goa after watching Dum Maro Dum.....They now have a impression that the Goan people are of loose morals and integrity. We have a very sad state of affairs in Goa. When you look at all the young boys driving around advertising for Mikkey, it is sad as they don't have jobs and are just becoming thugs. Goa is producing more and more thugs. It is bad enough that outsiders are coming in and committing crimes but our own people are getting spoiled. But all the people are concerned about in Goa, is how many tourists have come to the state.

  18. That is absolutely right Gurudas. If the 5,000 people for the previous meeting invite and take along two more people along with them the number can increase to 15,000. Come on my brothers and sisters let us all unite and support GRA and make the Margao event successful. Let the people from Sanguem , Sanvordem , Quepem, Rivona and all the interiors come to the meeting and support their brothers fighting the common cause. Our CM is already making vows to give Goa special status. Looks like he now realises the strength of Goans. He does not need our votes eh? Well he will not win as all his squatters and illegal ghantis will be chased out of Goa soon.

  19. I will attend the Margao meeting and I wow not to drink on that day. Because when I drink, I become a Bebdo and when I become a bebdo, I call myself UskoGoenkar, Blackfury and whatever other names that come to my mind and desperation has no bounds. I don't want to spoil the show in Margao.

  20. I only hope GRA will elect its leader soon or else it will be a ship without a Captain. Also once elected or chosen all NGO's supporting GRA should follow its leader. Unity is the need of the hour.
