MIGRANT SETTLER FROM CORTALIM ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTING TO MURDER A GIRL

VASCO: Verna police on Wednesday arrested Ratnakar Laxman Dubdali, 24, from Cortalim on charges of allegedly setting a room on fire on Monday night at Verna and attempting to murder a girl who refused to marry him and two of her relatives.
The police said that the accused committed the offence due to frustration after Sangita (surname not revealed) declined his proposal of marriage. On Monday night, the accused set fire to the room in which Sangita was sleeping along with her relatives Gariba Ishwar Andrap, 25, and his wife Jano Andrap, 20. Sangita, Gariba and Jano sustained burn injuries and were shifted to Goa Medical College Hospital for treatment.
On Tuesday, Gariba told the police that he suspected the involvement of the accused as he was having a grudge against the Andraps for sheltering Sangita. Subsequently, the police took the accused in custody, where he spilled the beans.
During interrogation, the accused said that he went at Gariba's room with a bottle of kerosene. He poured the kerosene over a cloth and set fire to it before throwing it on the roof of the house. Dubdali also sustained injuries on his right hand, the police said.
Verna PI Jivba Dalvi said that the accused, a helper in a pharmaceutical companies at Verna, revealed that he loved Sangita and wanted to marry her. Due to his advances, Sangita, who was staying with her colleague at Verna, shifted to her relatives' rented premises, Dalvi informed.
The police have registered a case against the accused under Section 436 (mischief by setting fire to house) and Section 307 (attempt to murder) under the Indian Penal Code.
