GOVERNMENT’S STAND ON MINING by Freddy Agnelo Fernandes, Dubai

CM Kamat is at it again, he assures that his government’s stand on mining is clear, is that news? The public have known the governments stand on mining for a long long time and that is the reason they been protesting over the years even after facing brutalities from their goons and the police with the full backing of all our corrupt politicians.
CM, the minister for mine had promised us the mining policy yore’s ago but it is yet to see daylight. Will this policy come before the entire western ghats are devoured and digested by our politicians and their miner friends ? Or will the mining policy ever come ?
CM Kamant also tries to shed crocodile tears saying he has been aware of the brunt of mining that the people have borne and that too for a long time, he at least admits he knowingly has done nothing for years and yet he calls himself the CM of aam aadmi ! Isn’t that ironic?
The best thing is yet to come, CM Kamat thinks he can increase the taxes at every avenue in mining and divert the finance to help the affected people. Now wait a minute, the biggest scamsters being in the Goa government he wants us to believe money will be diverted to benefit the public instead of being diverted to their own pockets? We Goans are not naïve anymore!
Secondly, will the increase in taxes reduce pollution and the threat to the environment and ecology? Increasing of taxes will not make any dent in the fortunes of the miners nor will it elevate the destruction of our environment and our ecology nor will it ease the suffering of the people who are eating, drinking and breathing mining dust, day in and day out.
Does the CM think Goans are fools or are we?
